Obituary

It is with broken hearts that the family of the late William 'Bill' Joseph White, age 76, announces his passing on January 8, 2022 at Springdale, NL. He will be greatly missed for many reasons including his big smile, his creative and inventive mechanical gifts, his willingness to take risks, his generosity, humour and exuberant story-telling. Although he leaves a deep void in our lives, Bill was a man of great faith and we trust he has safely arrived in the arms of his loving Lord and Saviour.

His departure leaves many with fond and loving memories: his wife of 54 years Rosemary White; daughters, Paula Earle (Lionel), Susan White-Smith (Eric), Anna Marie White Neufeld (Graham); grandchildren, Nathan, William, Danny and Elizabeth; sister, Gertrude Brake (Dolph Penney); twin brother, Tom (Stella), brothers, Arch (Juanita) and Ivan (Marilyn); as well as in-laws Dave Runde, Calvin (Juanita) Cooper, Edward (Catherine) Cooper, Stephen (Patricia) Cooper, Steadman Cooper, Margaret (Curtis) Stuckless, Graham (Sharon) Cooper, and their extended families.

Bill is predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Dora White; sisters, Audrey Parsons, Rita Forgacs, Joyce Runde, Nellie Foote, Minnie Summers, Grace White; and brother Reg White.

Bill was a devoted family man, holding close the ones that he loved while sharing life with Rosemary, his wife of 54 years.  A twin and one of twelve children, he cared deeply for both of their parents and families. Many times they opened their home as a safe haven to their siblings, and supported their early careers and family lives. He encouraged his three daughters to follow their dreams and worked tirelessly to see them educated and to help establish their homes. Living in many areas of the province, vacations were almost always spent in Point Leamington, the hometown that he loved.

Bill gave much in the service to the Lord and His kingdom. With his heart in evangelism, his strong desire was that many would turn to Jesus and be ready for His return. Bill served faithfully in the workings of the local church, as deacon, secretary, Sunday School superintendent, parsonage builder and church builder. However he could help, he willingly stepped into the gap.

Bill was an accomplished technology expert with a long career in telephony. Skilled in the areas of electrical, civil, and mechanical engineering, he definitely possessed "the knack". In the early years, he walked much of the province ensuring telephone poles were in place. During his later years, he provided oversight and was instrumental in bringing fibre optical capabilities to the province.

Bill had a personality that was larger than life. To his big family and wide circle of friends, he was friendly, vivacious, and caring. He was generous to a fault and willing to give at every opportunity. He will be lovingly remembered by many, and the memory of the tears that Bill had parting with Rosemary is only tempered by the promise to see each other again.
