Wilfred Jacobs
1930 - 2013

It was with sadness that the family of the late Wilfred Jacobs, age 82, announces his passing on March 8, 2013. Wilfred Clayton Jacobs was born to James and Violet Jacobs of Hampden, NL on October 10, 1930. Following the family''s move to Roddickton when he was 9 years old, he began working as a 12 year old, among lumberjacks using buck saws and axes. His life of work in both Newfoundland and Labrador included many turns as a heavy equipment operator/tractor trailer driver. Wilfred was a resident of South Brook, NL. from 1979 until 2010, when he and Irene, his wife of 60 years, moved to their final home together in Springdale.

Wilfred always enjoyed his shed. He spent many hours in solitude, picking apart old electronics and putting them back together again. Like his father before him, he also enjoyed woodworking. He used his father''s lathe to craft many fine pieces of furniture - some of which are in his children''s homes today. Wilfred and Irene enjoyed time spent with their 9 children and grandchildren all across Canada. He will be so sadly missed by all who knew him.

Besides his parents Wilfred was predeceased by his brothers, Ross, Claude, Harold, Llewlyn; and grandson, Cory Paulson. He leaves to mourn his wife, Irene; daughters, Shirley (Neil), Violet (Donald), Rona (Larry), Doris (Dean), Marilyn (Glenn), Gayle (Desmond); sons, Scott, Larry (Elaine), David (Monica); sisters, Helen (Lorenzo), Edna, Rudy (Wilfred), Hilda (Obed); Brothers, Donald (Clarice), Winston (Marion), Calvin (Carol), Murray (Mary-Ann), McKinley (Lorraine), Ellis (Joanne); Grandchildren, Nicole Rumbolt, Gregory Murrin, Brian Decker, Conrad Decker, Beverley Decker, Nicole Appleby, Myles Pichoski, Alannah Fillier, Natasha Sharron; 9 great-grandchildren; and a large number of other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held from the Pentecostal Church, Springdale on March 12, 2013, officiated by Pastor Lindsey Foster, assisted by Pastor William Harnum and Pastor Kerry Northcotte, with interment at the Pentecostal Cemetery. The pallbearers were Desmond Fillier, Dean Desaulnier, Neil Anderson, David Jacobs, Glenn Paulson, Brian Decker, Larry Lorence, and Conrad Decker.

Donations in his memorymay be made to Children''s Wish Foundation (in honour of Granddaughter Alannah''s triumph).
