Obituary

Wesley James Hibbs passed away in the presence of his loving family at the Green Bay Health Care Centre, Springdale, on January 27, 2020, at the age of 77 years.

Wesley was born on March 11, 1942 at Twillingate, Newfoundland, to James and Rowena Hibbs. He grew up in Robert's Arm but at 15 years of age he took his first job at Tilt Cove and spent the next 50 years working in mining and construction across Canada and in Mexico. After his father passed away in 1962 he met the love of his life, June Laura Burton, and they married October 11, 1963.

They raised 4 children in South Brook, James, Michelle, Chad and Monique. His wife, June, ran the home and Wesley went wherever the mining and construction industries took him. Wesley finally retired in 2007 at the age of 65. He was content to be 'on the go' in and around South Brook, hunting, fishing, especially the cod food fishery. He would travel his speedboat from South Brook to his cabin at Port Anson Causeway and on to the fishing grounds where he was totally happy!

On October 12, 2019, life changed forever for Wesley when he experienced a massive ischemic stroke in the left hemisphere of his brain that left him paralyzed on his right side and without speech for the remainder of his life. On January 27, 2020 it was difficult to say goodbye but the family is thankful that he is in a better place. Wesley was greatly loved by his family!

Wesley was predeceased by his parents James and Rowena (Bartlett) Hibbs; sister Linda (Hibbs) Burton; godparent Herman Ross. Leaving with a lifetime of memories and no regrets, June, his wife of 56 years; children Jim (Paulette), Michelle (Kevin), Chad (Dana), Monique (Rod) and like a sister to us all, Trixie (Boyd) Taylor; grandchildren Jamie (Tula), Joshua (Roxy), Jared (Jade), Cody (Kelli), Shania (Brian), Mackenzie, Jake (Jocelyn), Hannah; great-grandchildren Peyton and Mila. There are many other relatives and friends who have fond memories of him and his sense of humour! He made us all laugh!

The Celebration of Life service was held from Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle, South Brook, on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Kerry Northcotte officiating. Interment was at the South Brook Pentecostal Cemetery, South Brook. The pallbearers were son Jim Hibbs; sons-in-law Kevin Lawless, Rod Tucker; grandsons Jamie Hibbs, Mackenzie Lawless, Cody Hibbs, Jared King; nephew-in-law Rockey Roberts. Arrangements were entrusted to Elaine M. Rideout and Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
