Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ronald "Ward" Young, age 92, of Beachside, NL announces his passing on Sunday, June 30, 2019 from the Central NL Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor.

Ronald Ward Young was born in Silverdale, NL on June 26th, 1927, the second eldest son of Daniel and Winnifred Young. He had four brothers and one sister and lived in Beachside most of his life but had short posts to Ming's Bight and Baie Verte, NL and Old Country Harbour, NS.

He worked as a fisherman with his brother Roy in the summers and cut logs for Sid Thistle of Baie Verte in the winters. In 1959 he worked underground in Little Bay Mines and was critically injured in an accident in 1961. He returned to work as a Hoistman in Little Bay and worked in Churchill Falls, Whalesback, Ming's Bight, Val d'Or, Guysborough and Yellowknife retiring in 1990.

Ward met the love of his life and future wife Edna Bennett of Ward's Harbour when he was only 11 years old. They married on September 29th, 1948 and for 68 years they were totally devoted to each other. They openly showed their affection with kisses and hugs, a shining example to their nine children. They raised five sons and four daughters - Joan, Eugene, Bert, Keith, Judy, June, Jefford, Paul and Janice. Another daughter, Viola Joy, passed away after only 21 days. The extended family which includes 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren were loved and cherished.

Ward enjoyed the home life raising livestock and tending the gardens. His pride was his Holstein cows and the yellow clotted cream they produced. He was a pillar of the Beachside Church all his life and faithfully supported the work at home and abroad. In the golden years Ward travelled widely in Europe, South Africa and the United States including Hawaii.

Ward passed away quickly and peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at 8:15 am from the Central NL Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor. He will be dearly missed by his family and all those who knew and loved him. We all look forward to seeing him again on that great reunion day.

Ward is predeceased by his wife Edna Young; parents Daniel and Winnifred Young; daughter Viola Joy Young; brothers Ross Young, Roy Young, Ford Young; sisters-in-law Edith Young, Malviny Young, Claudia Young; brothers-in-law Danks Cole, Clayton Perry.
