It is with sadness that the family of the late Violet Isabel Small (nee Antle), age 94, of Springdale, NL announces her passing on Tuesday, January 03, 2017, from Green Bay Health Care Centre.
Violet was born on August 23, 1922 on Pinchard's Island, Bonavista Bay, NL and later resettled in Newtown, NL.
Violet met Harvey Small in Gander, NL during World War II and they were married on April 11, 1944. They lived in Wild Cove, NL and raised three children. She worked hard alongside her husband who was a fisherman to raise their family. Violet later worked for many years in the Laundry Department at the Baie Verte Health Care Centre. Twenty three years ago they moved to Valley Vista Cottage #12, where she lived independently until her death. She spent many hours knitting and making Crafts. Violet adored flowers and loved to receive them from her family and friends. She also loved to go shopping with Ada, especially at the Dollar stores. Violet loved her Lord and served Him faithfully in The Salvation Army at Seal Cove-White Bay and Springdale, NL.
She was a woman of wisdom and recently gave the following advice to her granddaughter, Sarah: "Be kind to people, have patience with people, listen to people, love people, and most of all have faith."
Violet is predeceased by her husband Harvey Small; parents Walter and Emily Antle; sister Janie Perry.
Leaving to remember the wonderful life that she lived is her daughter Shirley (Curtis) Pardy; sons William (Gisele) Small, Vernon(Janie) Small; grandchildren Brian Pardy, Yvonne (Keith) Day, Amy (Mark) Oakley, Sarah Small (Gordon Stockwell), Krista Small, and Brenda Lee Small; 6 great-grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren; sister Louise Antle; special friends and care givers Ada and Byron Saunders, Rose Rice; as well as nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members and friends. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
The Promotion to Glory service was held from The Salvation Army, Springdale, on Friday, January 06, 2017 at 11:00 am with Majors Collin and Jacqueline Abbott officiating. Interment was at The Salvation Army Cemetery, Seal Cove, White Bay. The pallbearers were Keith Day, Ford Pinksen, Alvin Pinksen, Byron Saunders, Dennis Dicks, and Joy Weir. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Gail Hancock, Elaine M. Rideout and Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
