Obituary

It is with sadness that the family of the late Stewart George Winsor of Triton, NL, age 88, announces his passing, on Saturday, September 30, 2017 from the Green Bay Health Care Centre, Springdale, NL.

Stewart George Winsor was born October 18, 1928 to George and Melvina Winsor. On August 4, 1948 he married Hazel Fifield and together they raised 7 children - Linda (Eli), Rose (Cecil) Dawson (Winona), Sharon (Lawrence) Patty, Graham(Ruth) and Joann (Graham).

His career of choice began when at just 14 years of age he started cutting wood with a buck saw. Stewart was one of the first individuals in Newfoundland to use a chain saw to cut pulp wood. He was known to have cut up to 10 cords a day. He then trained to operate the Timber Jack before taking on a Supervisor role of Woods Camp Operations. In later years he started his own company as a Woods contractor.

Stewart was a very resourceful man who could put his hand to just about anything. He loved moose hunting and fishing trips.

Stewart very much enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and in later years he especially enjoyed visits with his great grandchildren. He was always so proud of their accomplishments and regularly encouraged them to work hard at whatever they chose to do in life.

Although not an extremely social person, his character and integrity spoke volumes.

Stewart is predeceased by his parents George and Viney Winsor; wife Hazel Winsor; sister Audrey Vincent.

He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Leaving to remember the wonderful life that he lived are his sons and daughters Linda (Eli Petten), Rosemary (Cecil Young), Dawson (Winona), Sharon (Lawrence Henstridge), Patty, Graham (Ruth), and Joann (Graham Vincent); 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; brothers Claude (Salome), Edmund (Jean - deceased), Cyril; sisters Marie Heath (Rex - deceased), Margaret James (Paul - deceased), Rowie Oliver (Howard Burton); as well as nieces, nephews, many other extended family members and friends.

Stewart will be greatly missed by all his family and friends and special staff members of Springdale Retirement Centre.

The Celebration of Life Service was held from Maranatha Pentecostal Tabernacle, Triton, NL on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Kent Sceviour officiating.
