It is with great sadness that the family of the late Stanley Burt Roberts of Robert's Arm, NL, age 83, announces his passing on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the Valley Vista Senior Citizens Complex, Springdale, NL.

Stan was born on February 22, 1934, to Margaret and Herbert at Port Anson. When he was about 12 years old he moved to Springdale with his family.

He went to work in the woods when he was still a teenager. He later enlisted in the British Navy, where he served overseas for a few years. After spending twenty years working in the production plants in Ontario, he retired and was very pleased to be able to return to Newfoundland.

Stan enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors. He liked to go moose hunting, cutting firewood, and tending his flowers and vegetables. In September, 2015, at the age of 81, Stan was in his shed working on his quad to get ready to go moose hunting once again. Unfortunately, it was not to be. He suffered a stroke and slowly went downhill from there.

Pre-deceased by parents Herb and Margaret Burton; wife Gloria; brothers Malcolm Burton, Charles Burton; sisters Myrtle Purchase, Ethel Ball.

He leaves to mourn wife Shirley Roberts; sons David (Patricia) Burton; Darren (Donna) Gilley, Stanley (Desire) Roberts, Dennis (Stephanie) Burton, Matt (Rhonda) Burton, Oral (Apri) Burton, Hondra (Wendy) Burton, Tony (Sharon) Burton; daughters Gloria (Oneil) Burton, Linda Burton, Melisa (Jim) Burton; step-daughters Gina (Clifford) White, Marie Tizzard, Mavis (Carl) Roberts; step-sons Fred Gilley, Angus (Helen) Short, Derrick Short (Annie Hillyard), Ford Short; 22 grandchildren and a number of great & great-great grandchildren; brothers Albert (Marie) Burton, Tim (Blanche) Burton, Harvey (Triffie) Burton; sisters Lydia Rideout, Joyce (Willie) Foster, Lillian (Sid) Smith; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

On June 29, 2017, he went home to be with his Heavenly Father; gone but not forgotten by all who knew and loved him.

The Celebration of Life service was held from Word of Life Tabernacle, Robert's Arm, NL on Sunday, July 02, 2017 at 2:30 pm with Pastor Jeremy Foss officiating. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Robert's Arm, NL. Pallbearers were grandson Steven Burton; stepson Angus Short; grandson-in-law Elvis Payne; nephew-in-law Henry Heath; friends Ron Young, Ambrose Short. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Elaine M. Rideout and Gail Hancock of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale, NL.
