Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Stafford John Stoodley of Springdale, NL age 108, announces his passing, on Monday, September 07, 2015 at the Valley Vista Seniors Complex, Springdale, NL.

Stafford John Stoodley, affectionately known as Uncle Staff by most who knew him, was born to John and Lucy Stoodley on July 25, 1907 in Indian Burying Place. He had one brother Albert and one sister Wilhelmina. Indian Burying Place is where Uncle Staff grew up and began fishing with his father at the young age of 11 years and continued to fish with his brother Albert after his father''s death. After Albert''s death he carried on the fishing tradition with his nephews and was well into his 80''s before he retired from fishing for good.

Uncle Staff was a very private person and kept to himself. He had no children of his own but he enjoyed having people visit him, especially his nieces and nephews. He would keep everybody''s attention with all of the stories he loved to share. He enjoyed all sorts of outdoor activities, like bird hunting, berry picking, cutting wood, and rabbit catching. When he retired from fishing he loved to hang out on the wharf and stage watching the boats come and go. Uncle Staff also spent time reading his Bible and listening to church services on his radio.

Though Indian Burying Place was where he was born and raised Uncle Staff lived for 45 years in Harry''s Harbour with his nephew Ken (and Evelyn) May. In 2002, Uncle Staff continued his journey with Ken and Evelyn to the Valley Vista Cottages in Springdale. He was with them until he moved into the Home in 2007.

Stafford is predeceased by parents John and Lucy Stoodley; Brother Albert Stoodley; Sister Willamena May.

He leaves to mourn Harold (Golda) May, Don May, Terry (Paula) May, Kevin May, Verna May (Tony Tucker), Stella May (Shawn Rideout), George (Millicent) May, Ruby (Harvey) Andrews, Betty (Don) Andrews, Joyce Tucker, Ivan Bath, Evelyn May, as well as, other extended family members and friends.
