Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Shirley Mertis Pelley (nee Andrews) of Beachside, NL, age 72, announces her passing on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Valley Vista Senior Citizens Complex, Springdale.

Shirley was born in Shoe Cove, White Bay to John and Pearl Andrews, she grew up and attended school there. As a teenager she began her life work in Noble's Store in Nipper's Harbour; staying with her sister Ruby and family. Later she began work in Springdale's hospital and moved to King's Point where her parents had bought a local merchant shop and started up the first Pentecostal church.

In the spring of 1966, she was working in the hospital when she got noticed by a young man from Beachside. She later married that young man and became Mrs. Merlin Pelley on November 9, 1967. Together they raised two daughters Karen and Angela, one son Winston. From then on, she was a committed wife, mother and a special nan; devoted to her family and church. She was a hard working woman who fished alongside her husband and son on their fishing boat. She loved being in nature whether hunting, gathering firewood, and picking berries.

Her church and church family were very important to her and she hardly missed a service or meeting. She loved to read the Bible and the Good Tidings. She loved many and all who knew her loved her also.

She was predeceased by her parents John and Pearl Andrews; granddaughter Alisha Pelley; sisters Rowena Bowers, Verna Andrews, infant sister; brothers Bert Andrews, Claude Andrews.
