Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Samuel Thomas Smith of Port Anson, NL, age 81, announces his passing, on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Green Bay Health Care Centre, Springdale, NL.

Samuel was born on December 30, 1934 at Stagg Cove, NL to Leah Smith (Rowsell). On December 24, 1953 he married Millicent (Rowsell) and together they raised seven children (five sons and two daughters). They had sixteen grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Samuel was a very kind person and a hard worker. He started working in the woods when he was only 12 years old, cutting wood with only an axe and a bucksaw. He worked until he was 65 years old as a logger. He was a very outdoors-person. He loved to visit his cabin in the woods, skidooing and on his quad.

He is predeceased byhis wife Millicent Smith; mother Leah Smith; sister Maude Burton; brothers Wesley Smith, Eli Smith, Rhodie Rowsell; grandson Corey Smith.

Samuel leaves to mourn and remember the life that he lived, his sons Gerald (Audrey) Smith, Neil (Ruth) Smith, Wayne (Cavelle) Smith, Bud (Viola) Smith, Chad (Martine) Smith; daughters Sharon (Guy) Roberts, Connie Smith; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brothers Nelson Smith, Sid (Lillian) Smith; sister Bessie Noel, as well as many other family members and friends.

The Celebration of Life service was held from Redemption Pentecostal Tabernacle, Port Anson, NL on Friday, February 05, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Bryce Austin officiating. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Port Anson, NL. Honorary pallbearer was great-grandson Andrew Armstrong. Pallbearers were sons Neil Smith, Bud Smith, Wayne Smith, Chad Smith; son-in-law Guy Roberts; grandsons Damion Smith, Danny Smith; grandson-in-law Phil Edwards. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to M. Foster, Elaine M. Rideout, and Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale, NL.
