It is with great sorrow and victory that the family of the late Ruby Beatrice Spencer, age 85, of Springdale, announce that she calmly and peacefully slipped into the arms of her loving Saviour on September 30, 2021.

Ruby is pre-deceased by her husband, Edrell Spencer; parents, Merrick & Susan Dicks; sisters, Georgina Chartrand, & Veina LeBlanc; brothers, Bill Dicks, Eric Dicks, & Don Dicks, & Allan Dicks; granddaughter, Rosalie.

Ruby leaves to mourn and remember with love, her daughters, Rosemarie (Gordon) Snow, Lorraine (Nelson) Sheppard, Sheila (Jack) McLean, Betty Scott, & Sharon Marshall; son, Archie (Shelley) Spencer; siblings, Clara Noseworthy,  Audrey (Terry) Leveque, Leonard Dicks, Samuel (Alva) Dicks, Rose Glidden, Linda (Henry) Dicks-Handsley, & Wilfred (Jean) Dicks;  13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, & nephews whom she loved dearly.

Born in South Brook, NL,  on September 5, 1936 Ruby Spencer began her journey through life. She was number seven of 15 children to Susan and Merrick Dick's. Ruby fell in love with a Edrell at 14 years of age but did not date him until he came back from Toronto a couple of years later. She married him in January 1953 and became a devoted wife and mother of six children. Their love for each other never wavered over the years.

Ruby was a wonderful mom and grandmother and great-grandmother. She never worked outside of the home but spent her life caring for her family. It was often difficult and lonely for her when all her children had to leave Newfoundland for employment elsewhere in Canada. However she often talked about how she and Edrell would go snowmobiling , cutting wood, camping, & fishing with her friends. She was always excited when her children and grandchildren came home for a visit.

Ruby loved to knit socks, mittens, scarves, and slippers to send to her family for Christmas. She also made the best cinnamon rolls and bread. If you ever came to visit Ruby be careful because she had a constant need to do laundry.

Mom was known to her family and friends as a loving sweet compassionate woman. She had a wonderful smile and welcoming disposition to all whom she came in contact with. Most of all she loved and served her Lord and Saviour all her life.

Ruby leaves behind her six children 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She will be missed but our loss is heavens gain. Rest in peace momma your legacy lives on in your children and grandchildren.

The Celebration of Life service took place from the Pentecostal Church, Springdale, NL on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 1:30 pm with Pastor William Sampson officiating, assisted by Pastor Roy Hillier.

The interment followed at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Springdale, NL. The pallbearers were , Lorraine Sheppard (daughter), Sharon Marshall (daughter), Nicholas Pelley (grandson), Jamie Beaulac (granddaughter), Wilfred Dicks (brother), Jean Dicks (sister-in-law), Gerald Dicks (nephew).

"Her presence on earth will be missed, but we will see you again in the sweet by and by. We love you momma, enjoy your celebration in Heaven with dad, your sisters and brothers."

"Her light will shine in our hearts forever."
