Ruby Sarah
Batstone
May 6, 1932 — Mar 20, 2019
Jackson's Cove, NL
It is with great sadness but with a glorious hope that the family of the late Ruby Sarah Batstone (nee Matthews) of Jackson's Cove, NL, age 86, announces her Promotion to Glory on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the Valley Vista Senior Citizens Complex, Springdale.
On May 6, 1932 Ruby was born to Gladys and Leslie Matthews on "Matthews Hill" in King's Point, NL. She attended school in King's Point.
She became a teacher which she thoroughly enjoyed; loved teaching children to the fullest. Ruby worked at the Grace Hospital before attending The Salvation Army Training College in the early 1950's and was commissioned as a Salvation Army Officer in 1955. She loved serving as an officer/teacher in many towns such as Red Island, Peterview.
In 1947, she first met the love of her life when he was hauling mail by dog team to Kings Point. They were married 1958 and Ruby moved to Jackson's Cove where they eventually started a business. Ruby was the one to look after the business mostly by herself because Guy was away working for approximately 18 years.
Ruby was heavily involved in the life of her church and community, doing whatever she could to help in anyway.
She loved to do various things such as being a homemaker, quilting, cooking, baking, and decorating cakes. The wedding cakes that she would decorate would often take her talents to various places including the mainland many times. Ruby also loved to travel; she took a trip to Spain with her friend Hazel Boone. She also took many trips with her husband Guy, her sister-in-law Pat and brother-in-law Don.
She will be forever remembered and loved Gone But Not Forgotten!
