It was with sadness that the family of the late Willis Roy Oxford, age 67, announces his passing on March 30, 2013. Roy Willis Oxford was born and raised in Robert''s Arm, NL. He moved to Jamestown in his late thirties, there he met and married Lillian Brown. He later moved to Clarenville where he resided until two years ago. Roy then moved to the Retirement Centre in Springdale and in January of 2013 to the Valley Vista Seniors Home. Roy loved to go for long walks, listening to music, reading, and most of all going to church. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Roy was predeceased by his wife, Lillian (Brown) Oxford; parents Willis and Alice Oxford; sisters, Winnifred Short, Effie Parsons; and niece, Laura Young. He leaves to mourn nieces, Lucy (Pearce) Hewlett,Eileen (Augustus) Roberts, Joan (Clifford) Roberts, Judy (Collin) Vincent, Mildred (Pleman) Fudge, Avis (James) Osmond, Effie (Hayward) Burton, Alice Kelley, Marjorie (Lloyd) Wiseman, Donetta (Joe) Short, Bessie (Joe) Reid, Thelma (Otto) Wiseman, Florence (Ronald) Young; Nephews, Clarence (Wanda) Short, Ambrose (Gladys) Short; and a large circle of other family and friends.
The funeral service was held from the Pentecostal Church, Robert''s Arm on April 2, 2013, officiated by Major Lindsay Oxford and Pastor William Harnum, with interment at the Pentecostal Cemetery. The pallbearers were Ricky Hewlett, Fraser Ryan, James Osmond, Robert Ryan, Ambrose Short, Clarence Short, Lee Osmond & Junior Watts.
