Roy Murdock
Huxter
Mar 31, 1936 — May 10, 2021
Springdale, NL
It is with sadness that the family of the late Roy Murdock Huxter Springdale, NL, age 85, announces his peaceful passing on, Monday May 10, 2021, at Green Bay Health Care Centre, Springdale, NL.
He is predeceased by his parents Roland and Flora Huxter; daughter Faye Huxter; brothers William Huxter, Fred Huxter, Harry Huxter, Stanley Huxter; sisters Doris Knight, Ada Huxter, Nellie Tizzard; grandson Mark Bellows.
Roy leaves to remember with fond and loving memories of the wonderful life that he lived, his devoted wife Mary of 65 years; sons Robert (Helen) Norman, Roger Huxter; daughters Gail (Otto) Knottnerus, Christine Huxter, Nancy Huxter, Lisa (Bill) Weeks; grandchildren Kerry Norman, Kelly Rich, Christa Meng, Robbie Huxter, Jenifer Huxter, Meghan Jesso, Richard Lane, Niki Knottnerus, Ariel Knottnerus, April Noseworthy, Jenna Weeks; many great-grandchildren; brothers Jim (Betty) Huxter, Harold (Rosemary) Huxter, sisters Lillian Normore, Grace (Wallace) Foss, Lorraine Huxter; as well as many extended family members and friends.
On March 31, 1936 Roland and Flora Huxter of South Brook welcomed a new baby boy into their family. In early childhood they moved to Springdale where Roy grew up and went to school. Later he met the love of life, Mary Norman and they were married on January 4, 1956. Together they raised seven wonderful children. Mary always called him "dad". They always love to do things together, such as cutting wood, riding skidoo and spending time at their cabin. They were buddies and always "mom and dad".
Roy was a hard and dedicated worker. Most of his life he worked with Hewlett's as a heavy equipment operator.
He was a man who believed in laughter whether it was playing soccer, driving a piece of heavy equipment or salmon fly fishing. If he could get you to laugh he was happy. Most of all when he would get the children, including his own, to laugh he would become a child along with them. He loved to tell stories and play pranks on people.
The Celebration of Life Service was held from the Grace United Church, Springdale, on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Rachel Robinson officiating. Pallbearers were nephews Shawn Tizzard, David Normore, Robert Knight, Roger Knight, Barry Norman; great-nephew Riley Huxter. Interment was at the United Church Cemetery, Springdale. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Elaine M. Rideout and Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
