On a stormy February 15, 2011, the town of Beachside, together with other friends and relatives, gathered to remember the life of one of its best-loved residents, John Ross Young. Born to Daniel and Winifred on March 9, 1929, Ross grew up in Wild Bight (Beachside) where he met and married Edith Porter of Port de Grave, who had come to the town as a teacher. Together they raised four wonderful children, Trudy, Lois, Brenda and Myles. Ross was known for his gentle spirit and pleasant personality and endeared himself to all who met him, including the staff of Rufus Guinchard Health Centre, Port Saunders, where he lost his battle with ALS on February 11, 2011. He loved God, he loved his family whom he spoke with almost every single day, and he loved the great outdoors. The legacy of a life well lived was very much evident in the tributes delivered in the funeral service by daughter Trudy and son Myles. Mourning their loss are wife Edie, children Trudy (Paul Anstey), Lois (Ross Ward), Brenda (Geoff Ricketts), and Myles (Melanie); grandchildren Jon and Jennifer Anstey, Michael, Gillian and Jessica Ricketts, Courtney and Jacob Young, step-grandchildren Christine and Dale Ward; sister Marjorie Perry, brothers Roy, Ward (Edna), Frank (Susie) and Ford as well as a very large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor Jamie Lander conducted the funeral service from Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle with the interment at the Pentecostal Cemetery. The pallbearers were son Myles, brothers Ford and Frank, Grandsons Jon and Michael, close friend Lloyd Webber. Honourary pallbearers were nephews Craig, Tony Young and Danny Cole. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Gail Noel of Green Bay Funeral Home.
