Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald Cyril Saunders (a.k.a. Buckle), 82 years on April 5, 2022 with family by his side.

Ron was predeceased by his wife, Minnie of 60 years; parents, Chesley and Blanche Saunders; father-in-law, Stanley Earle and mother-in-law, Leah Earle; brothers, Hughie and Sidney Saunders; sisters, Bonnie Dicks, Mabel Jacobs, Effie Osmond, and Elsie Tizzard.

Left to mourn with wonderful memories are daughter, Angela (Rick) Scanlan; sons, Shawn (Sharon) and Tony (Deb) Saunders; grandchildren, Ericka, Ian (Taylor) Scanlan, Brianna and Jolie Saunders; great-grandson, Jack Ronald Scanlan; brothers, Ray (Edith) Saunders; sister, Wavy Huntsinger; sister-in-law Myrtle Saunders; brother-in-law Roy (Janet) Sacrey, Wade (Faye) Earle; extended family members and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ron and Minnie spent the majority of their life in Springdale, which they loved. Their second favourite spot was their cabin at Indian Pond. He and Minnie spent years there enjoying the best that life had to offer, either by themselves, with family or great friends. So much fun and laughter for all.

Ron can be described as a gentle, loving, caring, sweet, and giving man. He was never one to be the center of attention, but always gave so much of himself whether it was delivering a load of wood to someone in need, repairing or fixing things for little or no payment. The garage door was always open for business. No rest until all jobs were completed to his satisfaction. The best days of his life were fishing, hunting and cutting wood; including of course, a boil up and lunch!!

Ron loved a game of School, Phase 10 and 120's. He would often bid 30 without the 5 or jack just to torment his opponents and, what a laugh he would have. He was a pro at tormenting!!! He also loved Scrabble! He boasted frequently about his winnings! He also loved reading and was never without a book. He loved cutting wood and couldn't wait to get there. He spent many long hours on the river salmon fishing; he had all the patience in the world for that, but not so much with a can of paint and paintbrush!

He was a hard working man with a good work ethic! He was a pipe fitter by trade and worked constructing the Hibernia platform; many mill shutdowns in GFW, had a hand in mining, logging, and carpentry. Ron served with Green Bay Search and Rescue for years and was always willing to help and enjoyed his time with the team.

He dearly loved his partner Minnie, his children and their spouses, his grandchildren and great grandson. They made his eyes shine and would melt his heart!

The last few years have been challenging, with losing Minnie as the greatest. To Kingsway staff and residents, thanks for your kindness and friendship, especially to Eric. To all staff at dialysis (clerical, housekeeping, nurses, doctors, and everyone associated with the unit), he thought you were angels. To Dr. House, Dr. Morris, staff of 3A, emergency and Carmelite palliative care. Thank you for everything you did to help us face one of the most difficult times of our lives.

Ron was a small man with a big heart!!!!!
