It is with great sadness that the family of the late Roderick Pierce Winsor, age 82, of Triton, NL announces his passing from the Green Bay Health Care Centre, Springdale on Saturday, June 13, 2020.

Roderick Pierce Winsor was born on June 21, 1937 in Triton, NL, to Aldophus and Blanche Winsor. Later in life he met and went on to marry the love his life, Linda Bridger of Brighton. Together they had 10 children. They were later blessed with grandchildren and great-children; whom he dearly loved and cherished deeply.

Roderick was the most humble teacher and preacher. A man of few words, but when he acted or spoke, he spoke volumes, quietly. His greatest achievement was the empathy, compassion, respect and great work ethic that he instilled in his children. He did not boast of them, but every now and then he would quietly and proudly mention to someone about how his children were so well respected and appreciated wherever they travelled and worked.

He was never interested in fortune or fame. Though equally as proud of a newly constructed wharf as his harbour chicken or deep fried cod, his work, positions, or accomplishments were insignificant to him. His greatest comfort was helping the less fortunate. Roderick was always more concerned about the person next door, or in the next town, than himself. He was a pretty low key socialite but always in tune to the well-being of the less fortunate around him. Extending a listening hear, even if he didn't hear it all, gave him comfort. He was always much happier to give something that to receive, and if he did receive, he was more likely, and content, to give it to someone else. If he heard that someone was struggling, he was always the first to suggest to us to extend a helping hand. He was somewhat the King of Kensington of Triton, who found his fortune in the faces that surrounded him and helping other people brought him the most pleasure. Selfishness was definitely not a trait of his.

His love of reading was matched by his love of the simple things in life. The fish caught on deep water bank and stored up in the freezer was always a source of pride. Showing it always came with an offer of some, or anything else that was there.

His deep love of Labrador and its people could not have been by choice, but must have been inscribed in his DNA. He was always extending an olive branch whether in the form of treats for the kids or clothing for those that he thought could use some extra. Fortunately, that trait has been instilled in his kids and grandchildren as well.

In chatting to dad's school mates over the years and hearing their stories about how they would never have passed if they hadn't all cheated off him, in awe of his penmanship as he wrote letters for those that needed a helping hand or watching him do the calculations of countless tax returns for those who didn't know how, we've all come to realize that dad could have been anything that he wanted to be in this world, but, luckily, he chose to be our father.

As his children, we're proud that he was our father.

Loved by all of us, he will be sadly missed and always remembered.

He is predeceased by his parents Aldophus and Blanche Winsor; brothers Clarence Winsor, Mervin Winsor, Bruce Winsor, Ross Winsor; sisters Phyllis Stewart, Beryl Roberts, Idella Noseworthy, Rose Winsor; stepbrother Nathanial Winsor.

He left indelible memories for his family and friends to cherish forever. Roderick leaves to mourn his, wife Linda Winsor; sons Brian (Shelley) Winsor, Jerry (Janice) Winsor, Douglas (Rosalind) Winsor, Trevor (Denise) Winsor, Christopher (Corinne) Winsor, Pete (Jodi) Winsor, Lee (Juanita) Winsor, Trent (Hannah) Winsor; daughters Marilyn (Wade) Winsor, Rhonda (Kelly) Roberts; grandchildren David (Lalena) Winsor, Sarah (Jonathan) Kennedy, Sheena (Matt) Lacey. Ty Winsor, Tanya (Chad) Barnes, Anthony Winsor, Dustin Winsor (Allison Tulk), Samantha Winsor, Zack Burt, Jerrick Burt, Clarke Winsor, Martin Roberts, Shona Roberts, Megan Roberts, Charliegh Winsor, Kai Winsor, Ava Winsor; great-grandchildren Finely Newbury, Lulu Winsor, Wren Winsor, Emma Barnes, Jack Barnes, Cruz Lacey, Lacey Roberts; brothers Robert Winsor, Clayton (Thelma) Winsor; sister Lillian Tucker; nieces and nephews, as well as other family members and friends.

Note: Cremation will take place and there will be no viewing or service as per Roderick's wishes.

Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Elaine M. Rideout and Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
