It is with great sadness that the family of the late Randy Smith, age 54, of Sop's Arm, NL announces his passing on April 23, 2014 at St.Clares Hospital, St. John's,NL.Randy was born and raised in Springdale and graduated from Charisma Collegiate in 1976, where he enjoyed playing a variety of sports. He completed Civil Engineering Technology and Millwright courses, worked with IOC in Labrador City for a year and then moved to St. John''s. Randy worked with Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro for 33 years; first as a Millwright in Holyrood and then as a Technical Operator and Power Systems Operator at Cat Arm. He completed many training courses during his working years, including Power Systems Operator and Electrical/Electronics programs. He has volunteered with a variety of community organizations over the years. Randy married Betty Lou Heath in 1985; they have lived in Sop''s Arm for 27 years and raised two boys. Randy enjoyed playing guitar, singing, reading, woodworking, boating, fishing, berry picking, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. Most family gatherings would include a sing-along and he loved to make people laugh. On quiet summer Sunday mornings you would likely find him sitting on the deck with his guitar and a cup of coffee. Randy will be sadly missed by his mother Sylvia; wife Betty Lou; sons A J, Daniel; brother Claude (Judy) Smith; sisters Anne Tremblett, Rose (Bennett) Locke, Glenda Bray, Janice (Dwight) Oxford; seven nieces; three great-nieces; four great-nephews; a large extended family and many friends.The Memorial service for Randy took place on Sunday April 27, 2014 @ 2pm from The Pentecostal Church, Sop's Arm with Pastor David Crane officiating. Interment at The Sop's Arm Pentecostal Cemetery. The Pall Bearers were Eric Lovell, Christopher Pittman, Anne Tremblett, Susan Trainer, Glen Winsor & Major Owen Budden. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Gail Hancock & Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
