Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Phyllis Ethel Rice of Springdale, NL, age 75, announces that she slipped into the presence of her loving Lord on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 from the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls- Windsor, NL.

Phyllis Ethel Rice was born on June 13, 1945 in Twilingate, NL to Ralph and Jean Stuckless.  In 1953 along with her parents and her siblings she moved to Springdale, NL. There she met the love of her life Steadman Rice, they dated for 3 years, was married on December 1, 1961.

Phyllis was gainfully employed as a servant girl until she became a mother to her first born, (Roger).  She then became a homemaker. Phyllis loved cooking, baking, canning, gardening and her love for flowers was very evident and she could often be found out in the flower beds pulling weeds or planting new ones.  She loved coloring and most importantly caring for her family. She was always up for a good laugh around a cup of tea or coffee with family and friends.  She willingly sacrificed her own needs for the good of her family. Phyllis will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her  warm hugs and kisses.   She made friends easily and they were as important to her as her family. She lavished them with love and any baked goodies or canned goods she could find. Phyllis was grounded in her faith in both mountain top and valley experiences.  She loved and lived every minute of life.

She is predeceased by her parents Ralph and Jean Stuckless; brothers James Stuckless and Wilfred Stuckless; great-grandson David Rowsell.

Phyllis leaves to remember and cherish a lifetime of incredible memories, her loving husband Steadman of almost 60 years; her children Roger (Pansy), Bessie (David), Patsy (Clyde), Tina (Gerald), Eugene (Lorraine), Shawn (Yvonne), Jeanette (Mike), Lisa (Hayward), Richard (Alvena), Leroy (Kerrie) and Valetta; 17 grandchildren Stephen Rice, Jonathan Rice, Mark Collins, Shelby-lynn Collins, Timothy Blackler,  Ryan Blackler, Kyle Rice, Tyler Rice, Scottie Rice, Megan Warford, Rael Brown, Mikael Rice, Natasha Pelley, Brittany Perry, Kyle Wildfang, David Wildfang, Emily Rice; sisters Marina Young, Linda Young, Viola Luff,  Sadie Stuckless, Mae (Johnny) Luff; brother Brian Stuckless (Trudy Warr); 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, and a multitude of extended family and friends.
