Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Pearl Toms, age 75, of King's Point, NL announces her passing on Monday, August 6, 2018 at the Valley Vista Senior Citizens Home, Springdale.

Pearl Shirley Toms (nee Thomas) was born on December 6, 1942 to Max and May Thomas of King's Point. Growing up in a tight knit family with 4 sisters and 3 brothers, family was everything to Pearl. She had a big heart and she loved with all she had to give.

Almost 60 years ago she met the love of her life, Rod Toms, and they were happily married for almost 53 years until Rod passed away in November, 2014.

She was first and foremost a mother to Trudy and Rick and grandmother to Victoria and great-grandmother to Abigail and Madison. But she was Nanny Pearl to many more and Aunt Pearl to the children of her brothers and sisters and she loved them all fiercely! Family was her entire world.

For years she worked side-by-side with Rod at Burnt Berry Service Station and to this day people can still recall Pearl's hugs and the welcome that they received whenever they stopped there. Once you met Pearl you had a friend for life and a hug whenever you ran into her again.

In 2002, Pearl retired along with Rod, to their home in King's Point. From that moment on all of her time was spent doting on her granddaughter Victoria and welcoming friends and neighbours into her home. She loved to visit Trudy in Springdale and Rick in Paradise. In later years she was blessed by two beautiful great-granddaughters Abigail and Madison and they spent many hours enjoying each other's company. From coffees at Tim's with her sisters to drives to Rattling Brook for water, whom ever crossed her path was always greeted with open arms and a wide smile.

Anyone who went thru her front door did not leave without having a taste of her home cooking. Her table was never too full to fit in another person to feed.

Pearl loved her Lord and Saviour, her family, her friends and she loved animals of all kinds! She will be dearly, dearly missed by so many people who loved her! But we will forever remember that no one loved is ever lost and she was loved so much.

She is predeceased by her husband Roderick Toms; parents Maxwell and May Thomas.

Pearl leaves to mourn and remember the wonderful life that she lived, daughter Trudy (Pat) St. George; son Rick Toms (Bonnie Dicks); granddaughters Victoria (Jon) Garcin, Hannah Green; great-granddaughters Madison, Abigail; sisters Marilyn Budgell, Queen Kelley, Maxine (Andy) Villeneuve, Judy (Brian) Warr; brothers Lloyd (Gail) Thomas, Clyde (Ruth-Ann) Thomas, Rick (Doreen) Thomas, as well as other extended family and friends. Gone but not forgotten!

The Promotion to Glory Service took place from The Salvation Army Citadel, King's Point, on August 8, 2018, Majors Brian and Betty Thomas officiating. Interment was at the Interfaith Community Cemetery, King's Point. The pallbearers were son Rick Toms; brother Clyde Thomas; brother-in-law Brian Warr; grandson-in-law Jon Garcin; nephews Peter Thomas, Adam Matthews. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Elaine M.
