It was with great sadness that the family of the late Orvin Keith Short, age 59, of Springdale, NL announces his passing on July 13, 2017 at Springdale, NL.

Orvin Keith Short was born in Mile's Cove, NL on December 21, 1957 to William Henry and Roseannah Short. When he was 11 years old, the family moved to Springdale, NL and he graduated from Charisma Collegiate in 1976, where he enjoyed playing a variety of sports, especially soccer and badminton.

He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, snowmobiling, berry-picking, and cutting wood. Most of his employment over the years was as a labourer and he was well-known as a hard-working man, who rarely complained and was someone who's co-workers enjoyed spending time with.

Orvin married Valerie Andrews on July 14, 1984 and together raised one child, Keith. Orvin was a great husband and father, and adored his three grand-children Abigail, Hannah, & Benjamin, loving to play with them, watch them do their activities, and cuddle with them. He loved music and could almost always be heard singing a tune.

He was a friend to everyone who knew him and was always available to help out someone in need. He had twelve siblings with a large extended family and loved spending time in family gatherings, especially around Christmas, a time he enjoyed immensely.

Orvin was predeceased by his sister-in-law Karen Short; nephew Stephen Short.

He leaves to mourn his wife Valerie; son Keith (Susan); poppy's girls Abigail, Hannah; pop's boy Benjamin; parents Henry and Rosie; brothers Woodrow, Vaden (Lori), Terry (Theresa), Scott (Corrina), Barry (Alvenia); sisters Beulah (Otto) Saunders, Vivian (Hank) Clarke, Mavis (Boyce) Wells, Doreen (David) Quinlan, Brenda (Mervin) Buckle, Peggy (Francis) Wheeler, Norma (Peter) Andrews; he had many nieces and nephews; they were all very special to him, as well as many other relatives and friends. Orvin will be sadly missed by his large family and many friends.

The Home Going service was held from Springdale Pentecostal Church, Springdale on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 2:30 pm with Pastor L. Foster officiating, assisted by Pastor Bill Sampson. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Cherry Crescent, Springdale, NL. Pallbearers were brother Vaden Short; brother-in-law Wayne Saunders; friends Lewis Oxford, Claude Bowers, Glen Budgell, Dennis Rowsell. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Elaine M. Rideout and Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale, NL.
