Springdale, NL
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Norman Edward William Hicks of Springdale, NL, age 80, announces his passing on Saturday, January 23, 2021 from the Green Bay Health Care Centre, Springdale, NL.
Norman Edward William Hicks was born to Jessie and Hilda Hicks in Doting Cove-Musgrave Harbour, on January 25, 1940. Norman was one of six children. On May 1, 1965 Norman married the love of his life, Nina Norman of Pacquet and together they raised a family of four girls. Norman and Nina resided in Springdale for most of their lives with work taking them to Daniels Harbour and Nanisivik.
He was a welder by trade, working in various mines, also local companies around the Springdale area. Norman and Nina with their friends enjoyed berry picking, quad rides, fishing and boating, including adventures to Boot Harbour.
Norman enjoyed helping out family and friends, lending a hand with his carpentry skills. He also loved to cook, bake, woodworking, smoking salmon, caplin and mackerel in his smoke house. Norman liked to plant flowers and tried his hand in the vegetable garden.
Church was a vital part of Norman's life; he was a committed Christian and a member of the Springdale Pentecostal Church. He loved to hear the word of God preached; praying for his family was very important.
Norman was a quiet, kind and gentleman. He took great pride in providing for his family. Showed his love and kindness to his children and grandchildren; he loved telling them his silly jokes, making crafts for them with his wood working abilities. When his girls were young he would love to spend time sitting at the kitchen table drawing pictures for them, making specials desserts and candies.
On January 23, 2021, Norman had graduated from this earthly abode and entered into his heavenly rest being reunited with his wife, Nina and his Lord and Saviour – Jesus Christ; he is gone but will not be forgotten!
