It is with great sadness that the family of the late Netta Mary Isabella Short of Springdale, NL, announces her passing on October 18, 2020. Netta was born in 1928 in Wellman's Cove, on Sunday Cove Island. She is predeceased by her husband, Ambrose Short, parents Daniel and Francis Normore (nee Vokey), brothers Alonzo Normore and Reginald Normore and her sister Mabel Abbott. She leaves to mourn her sons Wade (Jean), Eric (Cheryl), Craig, and Darryl (Penny); grandchildren Rana (Francois) Short, Jena (Sheri) Short, Megan (Anders) Short,Philip Short, Liane Short, Lucas Short, Nicole Short, Olivia Short ; great grandchildren Caleb Short, Lorenzo Charest, Sophia Charest, Isabelle Charest, Victoria Charest; ; brothers Chesley Normore, Roy (Joan) Normore, Many nephews and nieces whom she loved dearly, as well as a large circle of extended relatives and friends.

Straight out of school, Netta received her teaching certificate and taught around the bay for several years until she married Ambrose Short in 1951, initially settling down in Wellman's Cove teaching there and starting her family, later moving to Corner Brook. Wherever she lived, Netta was active in social and church activities, such as the Canadian Red Cross, the Women's Institute, or Ladies Auxiliaries, to name a few. Her two driving forces in life were her family and her faith, and neither she nor Ambrose forgot their daily devotions.

Even though she had moved away to raise her family, Netta never forgot her roots in Wellman's Cove, eventually building a cabin there. They could be found there every summer welcoming any who dropped by for a tea and a chat.

The Celebration of Life Service was held from Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale, on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Rachel Robinson officiating.  Pallbearers were sons Wade and Craig Short; nieces Gayle Skelding, Dale Butler; nephews Glenn Normore, Bob Butler. Interment was at the United Church Cemetery, Springdale. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Elaine M. Rideout and Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
