Obituary

It is with sadness that the family of the late Neta Elizabeth Weir announce that Neta passed peacefully away at the age of 89 in Valley Vista Nursing Home, Springdale on October 28, 2023.

Neta was born in Springdale where she grew up and at the age of 16, after graduating high school, she left home to teach for a few months before following her dream to become a registered nurse. She moved to Toronto to live with her maternal "Aunt Neta" and later graduated from the Salvation Army Toronto Grace Hospital.
She had other dreams too as did her future husband, Lloyd Goudie, who was in the RCAF.
They both returned home to Springdale in 1955, and as a young couple eloped and started their new life together. The following few years were busy ones as three children came along.
After the illnesses and loss of two young children and husband, Neta returned to work but chose a different path, working in clerical positions with the Town Office, Atlantic Coast Copper, Scotiabank, local businesses and later Valley Vista and The Garden House.
Neta found happiness again when she met her second "Lloyd" (Weir) and they have spent 53 years making memories. They welcomed the seasons and over the years enjoyed their cabin & boating, snowmobiling, ice fishing, gardening, travelling and making memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom affectionately called her "Mom" and "Great Mom".
She never rested easy until her family were safely home at the end of the day and embraced technology as she tracked their flights, checked Find Friends and started the morning with a text to inquire everyone's whereabouts, as she had a keen interest in their daily activities.
Neta had many interests over the years. She played the piano in church, was a member of the UCW, Cemetery Committee, Heritage Committee, knitting, sewing, quilting, games & cards, and of course the news and weather just to name a few.
She was an excellent baker and cook and always had a variety of sweets on hand. You could depend on her to drop off a dessert or casserole to family and friends in time of need.
Neta's lifelong determination and motivation was evident over the past 4 1/2 years as her health declined and she maintained her independence of living home until the past few months.

She leaves to mourn with loving memories her husband Lloyd, daughter Jane (Goudie) Stacey, son-in-law Jerry, grandchildren Jonathan (Teri), Laura (David Scott), great-grandchildren Samuel, Lucas and Stella, sister Mereda Leek (Ken), sister-in-law Donna Pollett (Don), nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Neta is predeceased by precious children, daughter Suzanne age 4 (1963), Paul age 4 (1965), husband Lloyd Goudie (1966), parents Neil and Stella Smith (Peters), brother Arthur Smith, brother-in-law Elmo Weir and sister-in-law Barbara Oxford.

Cremation has taken place as per her wishes.
Visitation will take place at Green Bay Funeral Home on Saturday November 11, from 11:00am - 1:00pm followed by a Memorial Service for family and friends at 2:00pm in the Chapel.
Inurnment will be at Grace United Cemetery where she will be laid to rest at the foot of her two deceased children.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory to Grace United Church, Springdale or a charity of choice.
Thank you to the staff of Valley Vista for the care and compassion they have provided over the past few months.
