With gratitude for his life, but filled with sorrow of loss, the family of Mervin Samuel Regular, 83, announces his passing after a brief illness. Mervin lived a life of faith, and walked daily in the integrity of his convictions. He was a man of gracious kindness, loving gentleness and steadfast character.

Left with a legacy of love are his wife, Shirley, and his children Kevin (Pearl), Debra (David), Milly (Shawn), Kirk (Cyndi), Stephen (Christy); Grandchildren: Terri-Lynn (Brandon), Kathi-Lee (Ryan), Kevin Jr. (Erin), Christopher (Jenilee), Colin (Leanna), Carolyn (Andrew), Cory (Chanel), Katherine (Candace), Adam, Kyle (Jordan), Kayla, Taylor, Chelsea (Nicholas), Courtney (John), Sarah and Joshua; Great-grandchildren: Chloe, Brayden, Rylee, Caleb, Maxwell, Abigail, Victor, Iris, Isabella, Logan, Elliot, Rozenn, Eillie, Kaden, Kaylee, Khloe, Ryder, Lucy, Ruby June and Sadie. Siblings: Eileen (Arthur), Milton (Marie), Shirley (Maxwell), Gladys, Stella, Kay (Pratt), Hazel (Carl), Gertie, Nola (Terry); as well as nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

He is predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Dorothy Regular, brothers: Victor, Edgar and Melvin; sister Caroline; parents-in-law Stanley and Gertie Jenkins; sisters- and brothers-in-law: Blanche Regular, Albert Regular, Henry Gale, David Fudge, Harvey Legge, Henry Foster, Samuel Decker, Eleazer and Melvina Decker, and Dot and Zephlyn Regular.

Mervin Samuel Regular was born on August 30, 1938, and for most of his 83 years, walked through life with two passions: Serving his Lord and caring for his family.

In service to God, he daily lived out Jesus' most important commandments: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your mind and all your strength; and the second, love your neighbour as yourself." This Mervin did in the countless acts of service to the church and to those around him. He served first as one of the founding members of the Ming's Bight assembly and for decades nurtured and grew that church as a deacon, usher, Sunday school superintendent, building committee member and in many other ad hoc roles. Then for 40 years, Mervin gave his time, talent and resources, to Trinity Pentecostal Church in Baie Verte. There, he served in leadership roles on many different boards, including as board secretary.  Other involvement included Sunday school superintendent, Crusader Commander, usher, song leader and many other capacities. He was a Gideon for 44 years, dedicated to getting the Bible into the hands of as many people as possible. As an outflow of his service to God, Mervin lived a life of service to others. In his community, he served as a volunteer fire fighter for years. He would never see someone in need without his heart of compassion propelling him to do something about it. Everyday in thousands of acts of kindness, whether a kind word or smile or simply going about his business in integrity, Mervin touched so many with the love of God.

Throughout the twists and turns life throws at a family, Mervin was the unwavering, unmoving North Star of love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mervin loved his wife and family without reservation or conditions. His unfailing devotion to Shirley was evident in his constant attention to her comfort and happiness. A perfect example of the Father's love, there was nothing that could turn his love from his children, and they knew it. This included very practical care of working to provide for his family. He spent almost 30 years at Advocate Mines and Baie Verte Mines. During those years, he was also an entrepreneur, operating two businesses over the years. After the Asbestos mine closed, he work for Richmont Mines, from where he retired at the age of 68. At home and work, Mervin walked his faith daily and impacted those around him with his consistent life of humility and commitment to God. He distinguished himself with a reputation for integrity, hard work and dependability.

The Celebration of Life service was held from the Pentecostal Church, Baie Verte, NL, on July 14, 2022 at 1:30pm with Pastor Lindsey Foster officiating. Interment was at Ming's Bight Pentecostal Cemetery. Pallbearers were; grandchildren Christopher Pollard, Colin Pollard, Terri-Lynn Wimbleton, Carolyn Lush, Kevin Regular Jr., Katherine Brown, Adam Brown, Sarah Regular, Joshua Regular. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the professional and loving care of Harry Oxford and Julia Budgell of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.

Flowers accepted, but donations can be made in his memory to The Gideons ( Gideons International | Donate ) or to Ming's Bight Pentecostal Cemetery fund.
