Itis with sadness that the family of the late Mary Saunders, age 89, of Springdale, NL, announces her passing on February 27,2013 at Green Bay Community Health Centre, Springdale. Mary was born to Robert & Jermina Oxford on July 10,1923. She married Arthur Saunders and together they had 14 children. Mary loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting, completing puzzles, and spending time with family and friends. Mary was the oldest soldier of The Springdale Salvation Army Corps and faithfully attended and supported her church. She was a Lifetime Member of the Home League. A kind, generous, loving lady, she will be missed by all who knew her.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Arthur; sisters Violet, Elsie & Alphina; brother Fred; sons Robert & Paul; daughter Jean; great-granddaughter Chelsea. She leaves to mourn the wonderful life that she lived, her sons Donald (Phyllis), David(Ruby), Wayne (Nina), Kevin (Rose), Dennis (Marian),Boyd (Colleen), Byron (Ada); daughters Barbara (Jim), Ruby(Victor) ,Gladys (Clyde), Joy (Shawn); 18 Grandchildren & 21 Great-grandchildren, As well as a large number of other relatives and friends.
On Sunday March 3,2013 The Salvation Army Church Springdale was packed with family and friends for a joyous celebration of her life. Majors Robert and Cassie Kean officiated, assisted by Major Lindsay Oxford. Interment was at The Salvation Army Cemetery, Springdale. The pallbearers were her seven sons Donald, David, Wayne, Kevin, Dennis, Boyd and Byron.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Gail, Harry and Allison of Green Bay Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Salvation Army Springdale (special item to beplacedin Mary's memory)or the Gideons International.
