It is with sadness that the family of the late Lucille Elisa Sheppard (nee Gillard) of Sheppardville, NL, age 87, announces her passing, on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at the Valley Vista Senior Citizens Complex, Springdale.

Lucille was born February 23, 1932 to Elijah and Rowena Gillard of Twillingate. On June 6, 1949, she married Leander Gilbert Sheppard and together they raised sixteen children, thirteen sons and three daughters.

Lucille was a homemaker and enjoyed every moment of caring and providing for her family. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother; she loved each of her children and grandchildren very much. Lucille was a very loving person but she was a lady who was very independent and had a strong personality. She was an avid supporter of her family and advocated for them at every opportunity. Both she and Leander visited their family at every opportunity, those who were near and those who lived far away.

In her spare time she would love to do various activities with her husband Leander and whoever was able to join them. Some of these activities included hunting, berry picking, fishing, etc.

Lucille accepted Christ as her Lord and personal Saviour in her younger years and loved serving Him. She was a lover of the outdoors; she thoroughly enjoyed the handiwork of her Creator. Not only did she enjoy handiwork of her Creator but she enjoyed worshipping Him with others and would attend church faithfully. She was a faithfully member of Springdale Pentecostal Church for many, many years. Lucille supported her church and pastors in prayer and attendance even when she was not well.

She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.

Lucille is predeceased by her husband Leander Sheppard; parents Elijah and Rowena Gillard; daughter-in-law Julia Sheppard.

Left with fond and loving memories are her daughters Daphne (Reginald) McCarthy, Ethel (Allan) Kipp, Angela (Perry) Hobbs; sons Calvin Sheppard, Edward (Denise) Sheppard, Nelson (Lorraine) Sheppard, Lloyd (Loretta) Sheppard, Eugene (Marcia) Sheppard, Gilbert Sheppard, Theodore (Ophelia) Sheppard, Donald (Brenda) Sheppard, Dennis (Rose) Sheppard, Eric (Judy) Sheppard, Bruce (Michelle) Sheppard, Hayward (Kelly) Sheppard, Norman (Rose) Sheppard; 54 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren; brother Calvin (Deanna) Gillard; sisters Mary Sheppard, Marie (Bill) Vincent, Lillian Coffin, as well as a very large circle of relatives and friends.

Ever Remembered, Ever Loved – Forever In Our Hearts!

The Celebration of Life service was held from The Springdale Pentecostal Church on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Lindsey Foster officiating. Interment was at the Sheppardville Community Cemetery, Sheppardville. The pallbearers were sons Dennis, Gilbert, Don, Bruce, Hayward, Norman, and Eric Sheppard. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Elaine M. Rideout and Harry Oxford at Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
