Robert's Arm, NL

Obituary

It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Lawrence Goodlen Heath of Robert's Arm, NL, age 75, announces his passing on November 20,2022. He leaves to remember with beautiful memories, the wonderful life he lived; his wife Marilyn, sons Jamie (Bobbi Ann) Heath, Justin (Seanne) Heath; daughters Janice (Roger) Roberts, Jennifer (Billy) Fifield; grandchildren Daniel (Isabella) Roberts, Kaleb Heath, Devin Roberts, Emily Fifield, Cameron Fifield, Lakyn Heath, Jacob Heath, Liam Heath; sisters Marie Croucher, Helen (Jerry) Roberts.

Lawrence is predeceased by his parents Walter and Clara Heath; brothers Joe Heath, Lambert Heath; sisters Alice Rideout, Joy Skaja, Dorothy Paddock, Nellie Perry

Lawrence and Marilyn settled in Robert's Arm in the early seventies and began building what would become an absolutely beautiful life.   Lawrence landed a job as a logger with Bowater's for a short time, then went to work with Corner Brook Pulp & Paper.  He continued with the company for about 25 years, until a major back injury ended his logging career.

Hunting, fishing, snaring rabbits, and just enjoying the outdoors were second nature… and he heartily passed on that love to all children and grandchildren.  Over the years, he tended to many vegetable gardens and hundreds of loads of firewood (his favourite being birch) as home became sweeter every year.  He made sure that every moose hung in his shed was picked over meticulously so that every hair and blemish was gone before in went in the freezer.

He was the fixer of bikes and scooters, quads and skidoos, trucks and trailers, and everything in between, when kids and grandkids needed anything done.  He was never afraid to ask for help with something complex and he would never back down from a challenging problem, even when the solution might take way longer than the boys wanted.  His patience at a task made him a maverick with sharpening a chainsaw, and friends often brought their saws to be tended to. He always made sure to tackle every idea and build something that Marilyn requested and do whatever she wanted with the garden.

Dad/Pop always made sure everyone knew they were loved.  His presence and availability has always been a firm anchor for the family.  His quiet, humble demeanour and his rock-solid faith in God kept everyone grounded.  He was a model husband, father and grandfather, and his calm strength will be sorely missed.

The Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday November 24, 2022, at 2pm from Word of Life Tabernacle with Pastor Craig Gaulton officiating and sermon by Pastor Bill Harnum. Interment was at The Robert's Arm Pentecostal Cemetery. Pallbearers were all eight grandchildren: Daniel Roberts, Kaleb Heath, Devin Roberts, Emily Fifield, Cameron Fifield, Lakyn Heath, Jacob Heath Liam Heath. Honorary pallbearers were special friends Rex and Elsie Short. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale, NL
