It is with great sadness that the family of the late Kye Earnest Tobias Canning announces his passing on May 7, 2023 at the age of 65. Kye was the 11th child of 12 born to Herb and Grace Canning of Englee NL. At the age of 16 Kye left home to seek employment on the mainland, being employed as a carpenter's helper with his brother-in-law, where he worked for a year before he moved to British Columbia working in a fish plant. During this time he met and fell in love with the love of his life Stella. From there they moved back to Ontario where they got married and started their journey of love together for the next 46 years and from this relationship came Michele and John. Kye was a member of Salvation Army Corp of King's Point NL, also loved ministering in song with his best friend Lloyd Warford in company with other friends playing their musical instruments and worshiping God together.

He is preceded by his father, Herb Canning; mother, Grace Canning; brother, Alfred; sister, Dorthy. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are wife, Stella; daughter, Michele (Gerry); son, John; grandchildren, Justin, Kyla (Zach), Ethan, & Anna, great-grandchildren Damien, & Elijah. Also leaving to mourn siblings; Mae (Norm), Myrtle, Tom (Donna), Nellie (Rueben), Betty, Irene (Earl), Florence, Joyce, & Bessie (Lorne); as well as a large circle of family and friends.

The Celebration of Life Service was held from The Salvation Army, King's Point, NL on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 2:00 pm with Major Roxanne Randell officiating. The interment was at the King's Point Interfaith Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Joey Canning, Herb Canning, Ethan Canning, Dennis Hancock, Ron Canning, and Laurie Card. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Harry Oxford and Andrea Cole of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale, NL.
