JUDY CAROLANN FLORENCE SMITH (Sally Canning)
1950 - 2014
It is with sadness that the family of the late Judy Smith (Sally Canning), age 63 of Little Bay, NL announces her passing at The Green Bay Health Centre, Springdale on March 3, 2014. She leaves to mourn, Spouse Denis; sons Richard (Dina) Serediuk, step-son Jeff (Sheeza) Dupuis; Daughters Tammy Serediuk, step-daughter Stacy (Greg) Dupuis-Doria; grandchildren Makayla, Marissa, Nicholas & Joshua Serediuk, Isabella Doria, Gioia Doria; great-grandchildren Aaliyah & Brandie Serediuk. She was pre-deceased by her mother, Irene Thullgreen, brother, John Canning, special "sister" Evelyn Milligan.
Born in Botwood, NL, Judy was the younger of two children born to Irene Canning. "Sally" as she was known growing up, left Botwood to go to "the mainland" to make something of herself. After a short marriage she gave life to two children, Richard and Tammy whom she raised mostly on her own. After many moves and life changes she eventually found work with Toronto District School Board as a full time custodian and part time "chief". Everywhere she went in life she made an impression on people. Her smile could be seen a mile away. After vowing that she would never come home to Newfoundland, she met Denis. All it took was one trip to visit her brother John and they were hooked. Both Judy and Denis found their little piece of heaven in the town of Little Bay. Judy was everywhere, looking for star fish and sand dollars along the beach, berry picking with family and friends, getting up early to go on a moose run and snow shoeing in the winter. Judy then discovered trouting and never stopped. For Judy, family was everything and it showed in everything she did and said. She will be greatly missed.
The funeral servicewas held Saturday March 8, 2014 from the Springdale Pentecostal Church, officiated by Pastor Lindsey Foster. Cremation followed with burial to take place in The Salvation Army Cemetery, Botwood. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Green Bay Funeral Home.
