Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Josephine "Josie" Pearl McKay (nee Short) of Springdale, NL, age 101, announces her passing on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the Valley Vista Senior Citizens Complex, Springdale, NL. She was born on April 11, 1916 to John and Rocella Short at Jerry's Harbour, NL.

Josephine was known as "Josie" to her family and friends. She was 16 years of age when she moved to Little Bay Islands to work with Strong's Limited. In 1934 she married Llewelyn McKay and together they had nine children. Josie loved her family, she was devoted to them and nothing was ever too much for her to do for any of them at any time.

Josie was predeceased by her husband Llewelyn in 1994 and her daughter Daisy in 2008.

She lived at the Springdale Retirement Centre until January 2017, and then moved to the Valley Vista Senior Citizens Complex where she passed away June 29, 2017.

Pre-deceased by husband Llewelyn; parents John and Rocella Short; daughter Daisy Simms; son-in-law Ernest Simms; granddaughter Deborah Boyle; great grandsons Nathan Jacobs, Andrew Simms; brothers Cecil Short, Hubert Short, Ambrose Short; sisters Bessie Short, Whilemina Morey, Rhoda Normore, Emily Reid.

Josie leaves to remember the wonderful life that she lived, daughters Ruby (Kevin) Boyle, Rose (George) Tucker, Marion (David) Kean, Rita (Roland) Roberts, Joan (David) Bowers; sons Moody (Connie) McKay, Glen (Bernice) McKay, Scott (Sue) McKay, 24 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 30 great-great grandchildren; sister Ivy Chapell; brother Henry (Rosie) Short, as well as many other extended family members and friends.

She will be forever remembered and loved by her family and friends.

The Celebration of Life service was held from Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale, NL on Sunday, July 02, 2017 at 10:00 am with Captains Ken and Elsie Brown officiating. Interment was at The Salvation Army Cemetery, Cherry Crescent, Springdale, NL. The pallbearers were grandsons Steven Bowers, Bruce Simms, Glen Simms; great grandson Raymond McKay; great-great grandson Travis Simms; son-in-law Roland Roberts. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Elaine M. Rideout and Gail Hancock at Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
