It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hughie Joseph Reid of Robert's Arm, NL, age 80, announces his passing on Monday, March 18, 2019 from the Green Bay Health Care Centre, Springdale.

Hughie Joseph Reid Jr (Joe) was born in Dominion, NS, on December 30, 1938 to Hughie and Elizabeth Reid. He lived and worked in Dominion, NS and at a very young age began selling newspapers and working at various odd jobs. At the young age of 15 Joe went to P.E.I. to work in the potato fields. He had to lie about his age, so his boss would let him drive the tractor and his car. After he finished school in Nova Scotia, he went to Ontario and worked at Eatons for a number of years, he then became a sales agent for G.M.C. Later Joe moved back to Baddeck, NS were he owned his own business for a number of years. He also worked in the Forestry Industry.

On November 23, 1990 he came to Robert's Arm, NL with one of his buddies, Ronald Young who worked for him in Nova Scotia. While visiting Robert's Arm he met the love of his life Bessie Short and later married her on August 15, 1998. While in the Robert's Arm area, his hard working legacy continued as he worked for Reg Morey as a supervisor for a number of years, he also worked for the town of Robert's Arm. Joe was a supervisor for over 50+ people when they built the hiking trail and moved the Heritage House from around the harbour in Robert's Arm to its current location on Roberts Arm Highway.

Apart from his day-to-day work to support his family, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as golfing; he loved to golf with his three sons and always wanted to win. Joe also loved to go fishing, ski-dooing which enabled him to enjoy the great outdoors. He also enjoyed carpentry and as a result of his love for carpentry he built his own home in Baddeck, NS.

Joe gave his heart to the Lord on May 20, 2018 during the ministry of Pastors Bill and Judy Harnum. He told many people that it was the best day of his life. Because of that day, he now experiences the joys of Heaven.

He is predeceased by his parents Hugh and Elizabeth Reid; brothers Frank Reid, Rodney Reid; sisters Mary McDonald, Peggy Anthony, Agnes Hynes, Bernadette Perin, Ruth Churchyard, Donna Higgins; great-granddaughter Ali Reid; grandson Jake Osmond.

Joe leaves to remember the wonderful life that he lived and await the glad reunion morning, his wife Bessie Reid; sons Paul (Lisa) Reid, Robert (Peggy) Reid, Kirk (Corrie) Reid; stepson Brian (Heather) Osmond; grandchildren Bobbi Reid (Ryan Kelly), Brittney Reid (Brad Duncan), Gary Reid (Samantha King), Cody Reid, Connor Reid, McKenzie Reid, Callum Reid, Claire Reid, Ryan Osmond, Tanner Osmond, Joshua Rowsell, Samantha Rowsell; 11 great-grandchildren, as well as other family members and friends.

"Ever Remembered, Ever Loved – Gone But Not Forgotten!"

The Celebration of Life service was held from Word of Life Tabernacle, Robert's Arm, on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Laun Brushett officiating, assisted by Pastor Jamie-lee Burton. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Robert's Arm. The pallbearers were sons Robert Reid, Kirk Reid; daughter-in-law Peggy Reid; brother-in-law Ronald Young; niece Amanda Winsor; nephew Wade Wiseman. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Elaine M. Rideout and Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
