It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ivy Bessie Lola Rideout, age 87, of Lushes Bight, NL announces her passing at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre, On Friday, January 30, 2015.
On October 6, 1927 Ivy Bessie Lola Rideout was born in St. Anthony, NL to Thomas and Gladys Hillier. On March 31, 1948 she married the love of her life, Wilbert Rideout (Bert), of Lushes Bight, NL. Together they raised their two children Maisie and Lloyd. Ivy enjoyed and had a great love for many things in life; she enjoyed gardening, having flowers around, walking, talking and visiting with people, and she loved her family deeply.
Though Ivy loved her family deeply, her greatest love was that of Jesus Christ. Ivy accepted Him as her Lord and Saviour at a very young age (1946); she served Him for 70 plus years. Ivy was a faithful member of The Salvation Army, Beaumont, NL, a member of the Home League, and served as the Young People''s Sergeant Major for a number of years.
Ivy was a very hard and dedicated worker as well. For 46 years she worked alongside her husband Wilbert operating their own store called WA Rideout and Sons Limited, serving the community of Long Island, NL.
Over the last number of years Ivy lived in various residences due to her declining health. On Friday, January 30, 2015 at 9:45 am she was Promoted to Glory entering her heavenly home, free from all sickness and pain being reunited with Jesus Christ that of her first love and all her loved ones gone before who died in Christ. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Ivy was dearly loved by her family and will forever be in their hearts. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
She is predeceased by her husband Wilbert; son Lloyd Rideout; parents Thomas and Gladys Hillier; sisters Blanche Loder and Bertha Roberts; brothers Allan Hillier, Ernst Hillier, Malcolm Hillier, and Eric Hillier. She leaves to remember the wonderful life that she lived, her daughter Maisie (Joe) Hopkins; grandchildren Joanne (Greg) Peckford, Dwayne Hopkins, Tony Rideout, Christopher Rideout, and Julie Rideout; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister Dulcie Powell; brothers Gerald (Edna) Hillier, Bruce (Edna) Hillier, and Melvin (Audrey) Hillier; daughter-in-law Marina Rideout.
Public Funeral Service:
The Celebration of Life service was held from The Salvation Army Citadel, Robert''s Arm, NL, on Wednesday, February 04, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Major Lindsay Oxford officiating. Interment was at The Salvation Army cemetery, Robert''s Arm, NL. Honorary pallbearers Joanne Peckford (Granddaughter), Dwayne Hopkins (Grandson); The pallbearers were Wilbert Bromley, Ken Bromley, Leyton Oake, Boyce Oake, Junior Colbourne, and Wes Caravan. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Chris Morgan, Elaine M. Rideout and Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale, NL.
