Obituary

It is with great sadness, but a sense of peace, that the family of the late Irene Philomena Jacobs (nee Hancock), age 86 of South Brook, NL announces her passing at the Carbonear General Hospital, Carbonear, on Friday, September 18, 2020.

Irene Philomenia Jacobs was born to William Hancock and Annie Tucker of Englee, NL, on October 13, 1933.

She lived most of her young adult life in Englee, where she worked in the local fish plant. She met Wilfred Jacobs of Roddickton, they married on December 23, 1952, resided in Roddickton and raised nine children together.

Irene always enjoyed her family. She was a stay-at-home mom and loved to cook, bake knit and sew. She also enjoyed caring for her grandchildren whenever it was needed. Irene was a very spiritual woman and the church played a major role in her and her family's life.

She moved from Roddickton to South Brook, NL, with her husband Wilfred, and together they made this their home for thirty five years. Later, they moved to Springdale NL, and resided at Vista Place until Wilfred's death on March 8, 2013. The last four years of Irene's life was enjoyed in Carbonear, NL, living at Luxury Estates Retirement Village. She moved there to be closer to her youngest daughter.

While living at Luxury Estates, Irene enjoyed life to its fullest. She actively participated in all events, and helped at the home whenever and wherever she could. She made many friends, and needless to say both staff and residents were deeply saddened when she fell ill and passed on. She will be surely missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

Irene was predeceased by her husband Wilfred C. Jacobs; her parents William and Annie Hancock; sister Fanny Simms; brothers Stanley Hancock, Willis Hancock; son-in-law Donald Decker; grandson Cory Paulson.

Leaving with a lifetime of memories are her daughters Shirley (Neil) Anderson, Violet Decker, Rona (Larry) Lorence, Doris (Dean) Desaulnier, Marilyn (Glenn) Paulson, Gayle Fillier (John Goff); sons Scott Jacobs, Larry Jacobs, David Jacobs (Monica Lukas); grandchildren Nicole (Quentin) Rumbolt, Gregory (Melanie) Murrin, Brian Decker, Conrad Decker (Nicole Burke), Beverley (Darryl) Norman, Nicole Appleby, Myles Pichoski, Alannah Fillier (Matthew McCarthy), Natasha Sharron (Josh Perrault); 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Hazel Brenton, Rowena Hopkins; nephews and nieces and a large number of other relatives and friends.
