Obituary

It is with saddened hearts that the family of the late Hope Theresa Oake of Beaumont, NL, announces her passing on November 3, 2023, aged 77 years.

She leaves to remember with fond and loving  memories; her husband, Claude Oake; daughter, Oake (Shawn); sons, Keith Oake (Dulcie), Stephen Oake (Brenda), Victor Oake (Cheryl) and Bradley (Betsabe); grandchildren, Myles, Lauren, Nathan, Leah, Uriah, and Lily; sisters, Barbara Ryan (Robert), Catherine Paddock (Rex); sister-in-law, Sherry Burton; brother-in-law, Ernest Rowsell.

Hope is predeceased by her parents, Leander & Stella Burton; sisters, Pauline Burton, Velma Rowsell, and Salome Short; brothers, Gregory Burton, Calvin Burton, and Vaden Burton; and son-in-law, Leroy Bromley.

Hope was born in Ward's Harbour, NL. to Roland & Stella Burton on May 11, 1946. She grew up with 5 siblings. On June 1, 1965, she married the love of her life, Claude Oake. For 58 years they remained at each other's side and raised 5 children, Keith, Donetta, Stephen, Victor, and Bradley, whom she cherished each and every one. They weren't the richest family but they had everything they needed and what mattered most.  A good bowl of soup or turkey dinner was always sure to be on the table. Hope was always cooking up something tasty for the family, whether it was her famous gumdrop cake or a delicious stew. She gave of herself selflessly and without hesitation. When she smiled, she smiled with her soul.

She enjoyed spending time knitting; puzzle work and she was never someone to turn down a good game of skipboo. Sitting by Claude's side she was happy just quietly doing a word search. Her other love, next to Claude and her family, was the church. She was happy she knew the Lord. She was a testimony to others through her kindness, love, and eternal commitment to God. The church was her solace during painful and difficult times and through illness. This love of God gave her peace when she needed it most.

Hope was humble and she lived a life to serve God. She was there to always lend a helping hand and never expect anything in return. Like her name, she always gave the people around her hope.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me" John 14:1
