It is with great sadness, but with a shout of victory, that the family of the late William 'Henry' Short', of Springdale, NL, age 87, announces his passing on Sunday, August 29, 2021
Henry is predeceased by his wife Rosie Short; Son Orvin Short; Parents John and Rocela Short; Grandson Stephen Short; Daughter-in-law Karen Short; Brothers Cecil Short, Ambrose Short, Hubert Short; Sisters Emily Reid, Josephine McKay, Ivy Chappell, Bessie Short, Whelemina Morey, Rhoda Normore.
He leaves to remember the wonderful life that he lived; children Woodrow Short, Val Short (wife of Orvin – deceased 2017), Beulah (Otto) Saunders, Vivian (Hank) Clarke, Mavis (Boyce) Wells, Vaden (Lori) Short, Doreen Quinlan, Terry (Theresa) Short, Scott (Corrina) Short, Brenda (Mervin) Buckle, Peggy (Francis) Wheeler, Norma (Peter) Andrews, Barry Short; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many other extended family members and friends.
William Henry John Short, known by family and friends as Henry, was born in Wellman's Cove on January 1, 1934, to John and Rocela Short. Henry was one of 10 children. He married Rosie Reid on July 5, 1955. Together they raised 13 children, 22 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
Henry worked at many jobs over the years, in mining, logging, cooking, painting, and a general labourer. He was well-known for his punctuality and hard work. Henry put his everything into every job he did and was well known for working quickly and efficiently. He would often recite the following:
"When a job is begun, never leave it 'til it's done. Be the labour great or small, do it well or not at all."
Henry loved to joke and have fun. He was game for everything, as can be seen by his picture on this page. His laugh was infectious and could be heard from afar. Henry loved to whistle and sing gospel songs and hymns, even up until the time of his passing.
He loved the Lord and church, especially the singing. His melodious voice could be heard well above most others in the room.
Henry will be sadly missed by anyone who was blessed enough to cross paths with him. He could make anyone smile, chuckle, or laugh out loud. His hearty laugh will be remembered fondly. Henry's worldly journey has ended, and he is now celebrating his eternal home with family and friends who have gone before.
