It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hazel Marion Hapgood, age 86 of Brighton, NL announces her passing on February 12 ^th , 2022, at the Valley Vista Senior Citizens Complex in Springdale, NL. Hazel passed peacefully with her two daughters at her side. Hazel is predeceased by her husband, Tom Hapgood; her parents, Edgar and Dulcie Rice; sisters, Gertie Wellman, Melvina Slade, & Ruth Burton; brother, Ron Rice.

Left to mourn and remember her with fond and loving memories are her daughters, Lily (Rick) LeDrew of Springdale and Nancy Dewling of Pasadena; her grandchildren, Terri-Lynn Tessier, Pamela (Chris Stockley), Matthew Dewling, & David (Samantha) LeDrew; great-grandchildren, Tyrone Dewling, Lotus Tessier, Radell Brooks, Benjamin LeDrew, Claire Stockley, Carter Dewling, Mackenzie Tessier, Ethan LeDrew, Robin Tessier, Lydia Stockley, Maddie Dewling, Jesse Dewling, & Phoenix Dewling;  her special friend and home support worker, Kim Curtis; and a number of extended family and friends.

Hazel was born on December 15, 1935, to Edgar and Dulcie Rice in Brighton.  Hazel was an incredibly hard worker and spent many years working as the school custodian in Brighton – a job she dearly loved.

Hazel was known to watch wrestling, do numerous crossword puzzles, tend to her black current garden, and picking berries. In her senior years, Hazel relocated to Springdale, where she enjoyed visits from her daughters, her grandchildren, and even her great grandchildren.  Hazel kept her circle small, but loved those in her life deeply.  Her smile could light up a room, and if you were fortunate enough to be on the receiving end, you knew without a doubt how special you were to her.

She will be forever loved and missed.

The celebration of life service was held from Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale, NL on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Inurnment was at Brighton Community Cemetery, Brighton, NL. Urn bearer was Tyrone Dewling (Great-grandson).

Our family would like to thank the staff at Valley Vista, Nurse Practitioner Nadine Roberts, and Doctor Todd Young for the exceptional care they provided to our mother and grandmother.
