Obituary

It is with sadness that the family of the late Harold T. Burton, age 74, of Springdale, NL announces his passing at Valley Vista Senior Citizens Complex, Springdale, NL on Tuesday, May 31, 2016.

Harold was a humble and gentle man who spoke kindness of everyone. He worked hard from a very young age, devoting his life to his family. The middle child of 9, he was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed him, young or old, family, friend or stranger. Much of his life was spent fishing, working in the woods, and cutting wood for others as well as himself. No one sharpened a saw like Harold, and everyone knew who to go to for help with their saw.

Harold lovingly devoted himself to his wife Elsie on February 1, 1969 and they shared 47 years of marriage; 5 decades of unwavering love together. They were blessed with 4 children; Beverly, Paul, Sarah, and Amanda. Harold will always be remembered for his love of the woods, his dedication and love for his family, his light hearted jokes and stories, and his trust, commitment and faith in God. When it came to prayer, Harold's only words were "you can never have too much of that."

He was predeceased by his parents, Hayward and Priscilla Burton, one brother Harvey, and a sister Marie. Left to honour his memory are his wife Elsie; Son Paul (Nicky); Daughters Beverly, Sarah (Jonathan) McLaren, Amanda; Brothers Roy (Ivy), Lewis, Wilson (Bernadette); Sisters Joyce, Joan, Elsie (Mervin) Pinsent; Grandchildren Blaze, Brody, Brayden. Funeral service, attended by family and close friends, was held at Green Bay Funeral Home on June 2, 2016 with Pastor Norman Joy officiating. Interment followed at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Springdale. Pallbearers were Sarah Burton, Amanda Burton, Wilfred Burton, Jim Dalley, Billy Joe Fudge, Roger Wiseman. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Green Bay Funeral Home.
