It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gerald Allan Whelan of Pilley's Island, NL, age 74, announces his sudden passing on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Pilley's Island, NL.

Gerald was born on July 14, 1943 to Eli and Maude Whelan. He met Jeanette King of Pilley's Island, up by the square, when he was 25 years old. They were married on June 22, 1968. On August 26, 1969, they welcomed their first child Rick into their lives and home. Five years later on December 20, 1974, they welcomed their second child, a little baby girl and they named her Paulette.

He loved the great outdoors very much. Cutting wood was his favourite thing of all. Gerald also enjoyed skidooing, catching a trout or two-maybe more and he also thoroughly enjoyed rabbit catching.

Gerald is predeceased by his parents Eli and Maude Whelan; brothers Bill Fifield, Nelson Whelan, Otto Whelan.

He leaves to remember the wonderful life that he lived - wife Jeanette Whelan; son Rick (Jennifer) Whelan; daughter Paulette (Richard) Roberts; grandchildren Miguel Whelan, Ashley (Blake) Rice, Kaitlyn Roberts, Tyson Roberts; great-grandchildren Gannon Rice, Blakelee Rice; stepdaughter Faye Whelan; step-grandchildren Ryan Whelan, Shane Whelan, Kayla Whelan; step-great-grandchildren Iziah Whelan, Maddison Rice, Brett Roberts; brothers Ray (Gretta) Whelan, Edward (Dulcie) Whelan, Frank Whelan, Floyd Whelan; sister Viola (Chesley) Simms; sister-in-law Ruby Whelan; as well as many other extended family members and friends. Gerald will be missed by all who knew him. "Ever Remembered, Ever Loved – Forever In Our Hearts!"

The Celebration of Life service was held from The Salvation Army, Pilley's Island, on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Majors Arley and Darlene Masters officiating. Interment was at The Salvation Army Cemetery, Pilley's Island. The pallbearers were son Rick Whelan; grandsons Miguel Whelan, Tyson Roberts; son-in-law Richard Roberts; grandson-in-law Blake Rice; step-grandson Shane Whelan. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Elaine M. Rideout and Bill Weeks at Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
