Obituary

It is with broken hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of a loving husband, father, & grandfather, Garry Jacob White, of Pilley's Island, NL, aged 73 years, on January 27, 2022. Surrounded by family at his residence in Pilley's Island, NL., Garry changed residence to his heavenly home.

Garry is predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Julia White; Brothers, Kevin White, & Walter White; Brothers-in-law, Leonard Lush, Michael Whalen, & Cyril Tizzard; Nephews, Gregory Hart, & Trevor Whalen.

Left to mourn his passing, with fond and loving memories are his wife, Tassie; sons, David (Tina) White, Danny (Marina) White, Dwayne (Candice) White; Daughters, Stephanie (Jeffrey) Rice, Della White; His cat, Tabby; Grandchildren, Kendra (Brady) Winsor, Kenzie White, Brittany (Kyle ) Rice, Deidre Rice, Emily (Taylor) White, Amber (Noah) White, Jacob White, & Denvyr White; Great-grandchildren, Hayden Heath, Isabella Gray; Brothers, Aurlle (Betty) White, Francis (Sylvia) White, & George (Emily) White; Sisters, Valerie (Mike) Roberts, & Christine Lush; and a large circle of family and friends.

Garry grew up in Pilley's Island and attended school there. He met the love of his life, Tassie Whalen. They were married on November 17, 1973. Together they raised five children. Garry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He worked hard all of his life. Garry was a logger by trade. He retired from Abitibi Price thirty-six years ago. Garry also worked on the Labrador fishing. He worked in OCA Fish Plant in Grand Bank. Garry was a very faithful church attendee. He was a volunteer fire fighter. He loved to spend time with his wife trouting. He was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was a 'taxi' to many people and his church family, the list could go on. He was respected and loved by many; he will be forever missed with many fond memories.

The Celebration of Life service was held from Pilley's Island Community Centre, Robert's Arm, on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 2:00 pm with Lieutenant Colonel Sandra Rice Officiating. The interment followed at The Salvation Army Cemetery, Pilley's Island. Pallbearers were: brother, Aurlle White; nephews, Joshua White, Clarke Rice, Christopher Rice; brother-in-law, Dawson Rice; grandson-in-law Brady Winsor.
