It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dad, Francis Gillard who passed peacefully away on Friday May 27, 2016 at the age of 78. Born in Southern Arm NL he was son of the late Edward Gillard, Nellie Bowers and later step father Leslie Bowers and brother to the late Ronald and Gerald Gillard.
He is survived by his wife Fronie, his son Leroy (Cheryl) his daughter Sabrina (Deon), granddaughter Dakota, sister Jessie (Lloyd), many nieces and nephews and all the other friends, former coworkers and so many other people whose lives Francis touched in some special way.
Francis was born in Southern Arm but lived in Harry's Harbour for most of his life. He worked many jobs in his life from forestry and fishing to construction and drilling. He was a very hard worker and achieved a leadership role in almost every job that he did. Many communities in Newfoundland and Labrador have water and sewer thanks to Francis's hard work. He also had a role in construction of many of the bridges on our highways across the island as well as many government piers in the province. But as much as Francis was a great worker, he was an even greater husband and father. He always went above and beyond to provide the very best for his family providing both income and necessities of living such as always making sure there was plenty of wood, fresh fish and game. He taught both his children that hard work pays off, that any job should be done right with no shortcuts, and he showed that at both his work and at home.
To many Francis was a quiet person that was seen but seldom heard, but to his family and to the people that were close to him he was the person, the one who was always there, the one that we could always count on, the one who would tell you what you needed to hear (even if you didn't think you needed it at the time). Husband & father, brother & uncle, pop, boss and friend Francis might be gone but he will never be forgotten. His legacy will live on through his children and all the other lives he touched. Till we meet again Dad….
Memorial Service was held at Green Bay Funeral Home on Monday, May 30, 2016, with interment following at the Community Cemetery, Harry's Harbour, NL.
