Obituary

It is with sadness that the family of the late Maxwell "Ford" Burton of Springdale, NL, age 70, announces his sudden passing, on Monday, December 25, 2017 from the Green Bay Health Care Centre, Springdale, NL.

Ford was born and raised in Beaumont, NL. He moved away to work, in Sudbury, ON at Inco Mines. While living there he met his loving wife Cynthia Sudholm, they married on September 25, 1971. Together they raised four wonderful children; Curtis, Luke, Laura and Helena. He was a devoted and loving father, father-in-law and grandfather.

His highest passion was for God's Word. He was baptized on August 2, 1975 and continued to be a faithful member of the Jehovah's Witness Congregation.

Most of his life he was employed with Sudbury Inco Mines (later Vale Operations). He was known to be a reliable and hard worker. Throughout his life he earned a reputation of been a trustworthy and honest person, complimented by a great sense of humor.

Ford was an avid outdoors person with a love for the sights and sounds of nature, the sound of a rattling brook, and the tranquility of standing by the side of a pond catching trout. He often came home with a string full of trout for the frying pan. Ford not only loved to cook but he also enjoyed Tim's coffee daily.

One of the highlights of his visits home to Newfoundland was to go cod jiggin'.

Cindy and him moved back to Springdale in May 2015, where he continued to enjoy life.

Ford is predeceased by his parents Moses and Dulcie Burton; brothers Ralph Burton, Thomas Burton, Wesley Burton, Reg Burton; sisters Flossie Newbury, Blanche Croucher, Rita Locke; mother-in-law Helen Sundholm.

Leaving to mourn his wife Cynthia Burton; sons Curtis Burton, Luke (Whitney) Burton; daughters Laura Burton, Helena Burton (Curtis Ransom); granddaughter Hannah Ransom; sisters Joan (Joe) Vivian, Gladys Heath (Bert Moores), Yvonne (Amos) Heath; sisters-in-law Juanita Burton, Audrey Burton, Beulah Burton; father-in-law Bill Sundholm; brother-in-law George Locke; as well as nieces, nephews, many other extended family members and friends. He will be missed by his loving family and his brothers and sisters of the Springdale Jehovah Witness Congregation.

The Celebration of Life Service was held from Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale, on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Brother Don Bowns officiating. Interment was at the Jehovah's Witness Cemetery, Springdale. Pallbearers were Alonzo Young, Ian Jacobs, Mark Cofield, Ken Lewis, Jim Albrecht, Tom Saunders. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Elaine M. Rideout and Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
