It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Eugene Melvin Bridger, age 82, announces his passing on August 1, 2026 at the Green Bay Medical Centre, Springdale, NL.
Eugene was born to Gideon & Lucy (nee Fudge) Bridger on August 10, 1943 in Brighton. He married Sylvia (nee Roberts) on September 22, 1965 and together they raised 4 children in Triton. They later moved to South Brook before he moved to Kingsway Retirement Home in Springdale.
Eugene spent his life enjoying carpentry and working with his hands. Throughout his life he worked as the postmaster and CNT operator in Brighton(1961-1969), a carpenter building many homes in central NL and also spent some time on the mainland as a maintenance worker for the county of Ponoka. In his younger years he would often take upgrading courses in carpentry. According to a résumé we found from the 1970s his hobbies were hunting, motor-skiing, logging, woodcrafting drafting, and building furniture.
Eugene leaves with a life time of memories son Chris (Kelly), daughter Medena (Eugene VanLokven), grandchildren: Megan Bridger(Dustin Botelho), Marcus Bridger (Carlene),Declan VanLokven, and great grandchildren: Madeline and Molly Bridger; as well as in-laws Adelia Bridger, Clifford Roberts, and Claude Roberts.
Eugene is predeceased by his wife, Sylvia (2014), daughter Patti-Dee (1989), son Rodney (2022), his parents Gideon & Lucy, and siblings – Eric Bridger, Harry Bridger, Audrey Fudge, Roy Bridger, and Meta Blackler.
The public visitation will take place Monday, August 3, from 2-4pm at Green Bay Funeral Home, 145 Cpl. S. Bouzane Blvd., Springdale, NL.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place Tuesday August 4,2026 at 11:00am at Green Bay Funeral Home, 145 Cpl. S. Bouzane Blvd., Springdale, NL with Pastor Kerry Northcotte officiating.
The interment will followed at the Triton Evergreen Cemetery, Triton, NL.
The funeral service will be live streamed from Justine Vincent Thomas Facebook page.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Lionel Kelland Hospice.
