Robert's Arm, NL

Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ernest Smith of Robert's Arm, NL, age 75, announces his sudden passing on Friday, August 17, 2018 from the Carmelite House (Palliative Care Room), Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.

Ernest (Ern) Smith was born January 18, 1943 to John and Gladys Smith. He grew up in Sunnyside, NL.

He met and later married Hazel Roberts on January 24, 1970. They went on and had 1 beautiful daughter Susan, who was very special to him. Ern absolutely loved the outdoors, from rabbit catching to trouting, but most of all was cutting huge birch wood up across Sandy Pond, so much so that Hazel started calling him "sawdust brain".

Ernest and Hazel's daughter Susan gave them two wonderful grandsons, known to him as "pop's boys".

Ern worked as a linesman for 45 plus years, where he loved being the best at what he would do. He took pride in his work even after retirement. A job worth doing was a job worth doing right! He left behind a loving wife, and a big circle of family and friends who will remember him always.

Ernest is predeceased by his parents John and Gladys Smith; brothers George Smith, Arch Smith; sister Laura Mason.

He leaves to mourn, his wife Hazel Smith; daughter Susan Smith (Perry Goodyear); Andrew Smith, Sam (Lorraina) Smith, Bill (Gertrude) Smith, Bob (Diane) Smith; grandchildren Devon Smith (Tara), Brady Smith, as well as many other extended family members and friends.
