Elsie passed away suddenly yet peacefully into the presence of the Lord on April 19, 2022 at the age of 70 years in Alberta, during an extended visit to her daughters' home where she met and enjoyed her new twin boy grand babies in recent months. They were her bright lights through many days of arthritis pain flare ups, living with a congestive heart, and other medical needs since her 2-week hospital stay in December/January.

Elsie was the third of four children, born in Botwood, NL to Charles and Gladys and raised and lived most of her life in Springdale. At a very young age she left school to care for her ailing mother where she began a life of caring for, helping, volunteering, and cooking or baking for her eventual growing family and many others. At the age of 12 - standing on a step stool to reach the cupboard - she made her first batch of homemade bread. Her bread rose above all others (she would quietly smile reading this!), well known for it within family and friends, those who visited and shared a tea and slice of homemade bread or a bun, and often making loaves for anyone who asked or were in need.

At the age of 16 she met Harold, and they later married and had 4 children over 18 years. Elsie and Harold spent nearly 50 years together, a true partnership in life, in activities, in chores, in faith, in raising a family, and in unwavering true love right up until Harold's passing in May 2016. Elsie then had to learn to navigate life alone without him which was an incredibly difficult time for her. With loving support, years since have been spent with her beloved friends, attending church and home league women's group, weekly ladies' breakfasts, volunteering where needed and whenever asked, going for a decaf coffee and day trips, finishing many puzzle books, reading - especially her Bible every night before bed, or enjoying quality time and deepening connections with her daughters Sarah and Amanda. Thousands of hugs, kisses and laughs, phone calls and messages, travel, home cooked meals, scrabble games, thoughtful cards, notes, recipes, photos (even though she disliked having pictures taken!) and unforgettable cherished memories shared.

A neat and practical woman, with a strong faith in God, everything had its place and she led a quiet humble life, never wanting anything fancy, always giving of her time for others and never wanting to make a fuss when it came to her own needs. So many stories of how she made a difference or made someone's day with her kindness or soft-spoken words, cooking or baking, laughter, little thoughtful gifts, chats in the grocery store aisle, comforting warm hugs or helpful deeds. Elsie has left a legacy of positively touching the lives and hearts of others. Many memories will be shared that bring a smile and warm our grieving hearts for years to come, because she was here, because her soul shined, because she was incredibly beloved. In every refreshing breeze, warm ray of sunshine, song of birds chirping, ocean wave crashing, or bright colors of a rainbow we can take a quiet moment to remember her as she gently takes her place within our hearts forevermore.

"Precious Lord, take my hand, lead me on, let me stand, I am tired, I am weak, I am worn; Through the storm, through the night, lead me on to the light; Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home."

Predeceased by husband, Harold; parents; sister, Lorraine; her best friend, Barb, and numerous family, friends, and loved ones.

Left to cherish her memory are her siblings, children, grandchildren, many friends, ladies group members, and a whole community.

A Celebration of Life service will take place at Green Bay Funeral Home on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 1 pm for family and invited guests. Officiating clergy: Major Gerald Lacey. Inurnment will follow at The Pentecostal Cemetery in Springdale, NL with Pastor William Sampson officiating at the graveside. The Urn bearer was Wilfred Burton (brother).
