It is with great sadness that the family of the late James "Edrell" Spencer, age 84, of Springdale, NL announces his passing at the Valley Vista Seniors Home, Springdale, NL on April 14, 2015.
Born in Seal Cove, White Bay, May 18th, 1930, James (Edrell) Spencer began his journey through life. Edrell was a middle child out of eleven children of Archibald and Maria Spencer. Edrell, after leaving home at age 18, decided to move to Toronto. While there he worked at various jobs but did not enjoy the city life. He committed his life to Christ while at a gospel meeting in Toronto and then came back to Newfoundland. When he came back he met and fell in love with a beautiful girl with long flowing black hair. From that day until his death he became a devoted husband and father.
Edrell, a hardworking man, raised his six children in a much disciplined way. He had a strong work ethic which he instilled in his children. He was a skilled lumberjack and worked very hard felling trees and hauling them to the mill for lumber. He injured his back and was not able to go back to this kind of work. He looked for employment elsewhere and got a job as a night watchman and maintenance man at the trade school in Springdale. After a couple of years he started working at Valley Vista also as maintenance and security until his retirement. Edrell was known in Springdale as a quiet, but strong and dependable man dedicated to his job and family.
He is predeceased by his parents Archibald and Maria Spencer; granddaughter Rosalie Chuckrey; Sisters Madeline Curtis, Marjorie Hardesty, Pearl Spencer, and Sheila Burton; brothers Maxwell Spencer, Eric Spencer, and Roy Spencer.
Edrell leaves behind his loving wife Ruby, his six children, twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. He has one surviving sibling Clarence Spencer. Edrell''s strength and presence on this earth will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
