Edmund Weir
1910 - 2012

It is with sadness that the family of the late Edmund Weir, age 102, announces his passing at Valley Vista Seniors Home, Springdale, on Friday December 7, 2012.

Edmund (Ned) Weir was born on May 26, 1910 at Little Bay Islands to parents Edmund and Elizabeth Weir. He was the youngest of six children. He married Gladys Hull of Springdale on November 4, 1933. Together they had five children, two sons and three daughters. Edmund was predeceased by parents, wife Gladys, daughter Betty and son Elmo (Joan). Left to mourn with great memories are 3 children Lloyd (Neta), Barbara (Clarence) of Springdale and Donna (Donald) of Gander; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends.

Uncle Ned, as he was affectionately known by most people, began working with his father and brothers at a very young age in the cod fishery at Little Bay Islands and on the French Shore. Later he was employed by James Strong Ltd as a fish culler and was also very proficient as a seal skinner, even breaking the record for most pelts skinned in one day. He continued to work in the fishery until he moved his family to Springdale and began working as a carpenter. He retired in 1973. After the death of his wife he moved to Valley Vista Seniors Home. He wasn''t ready to quit and took part in many of the activities there. He remained there until his death.

The funeral service was held from Grace United Church, Springdale on December 10, 2012, officiated by Doug Brown with interment at United Church Cemetery, Springdale. The pallbearers were Wilbert Weir, Roy Weir, Don Pollett, Clarence Oxford, Roy Hibbs and Corey Pollett.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Gail (Noel) Hancock and Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
