It is with broken hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of a loving husband, father & grandfather, Edgar Samuel Short, of Robert's Arm, NL, aged 79 years. On Saturday, November 27, 2021 surrounded by family at his residence in Robert's Arm, NL, Edgar changed residence to his Heavenly Home.

Edgar is predeceased by his parents, Samuel & Minnie Short; daughter, Barbara Short; brothers, Lawrence Short, & Allan Short; sister, Beulah Mae Roberts.

Left forever to cherish their lifetime of memories are his wife of 57 years, Vivian Short; son, Byron Short; daughters, Beverly (Troy) Mitchell, & Brenda (Gary) Rideout; grandchildren, Kerrie (Jonathan) Hatt, Ian (Tiffany) Mitchell, Daniel (Jolanda Beson) Rideout, Corey Rideout, & Robbie Collins; great-grandchildren, Kailynn, Emmerson, Titus, Tahlia, Kaydence, & Skylar-Sam.

Edgar was born in Robert's Arm, NL on January 10, 1942, to Samuel and Minnie Short. He met the love of his life, Vivian Greenham, and was married on November 12, 1964; they just celebrated 57 years of marriage. Edgar was very involved in church for many years, serving on the board and a leader of youth with Crusaders.

Edgar started working in a fish plant at a very young age. He decided to further his education at the school of Marine Technology as a Marine Navigator. Not long after starting a new career as a Long Hole Driller, an accident happened which caused him learn new skills and start a career as a TV/Radio Technician. He then worked in Springdale, at Radio Shack, for several years. With a shortage of work in this area, in 1979, Edgar returned to mining. He packed up and moved his family to Northern Manitoba, returning to Newfoundland in the 1990's and worked on air track drilling. He enjoyed hunting and snaring animals with his brothers, Rex and Allen.

He worked hard at whatever he did; from collecting wood for winter or enjoying a skidoo ride with a little boil up at the camp. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed the outdoors so much. He passed this love onto other members in his family, especially his children, Beverly, Brenda, and Byron. As well to his grandchildren,  Ian, Kerri, Daniel, and Corey; whom he cherished. You could see his gentle manner in the way he adored his grandchildren; Kailynn, Emmerson, Titus, Tahlia, Kaydence and little Skyler-Sam. He was a gentle soul who was loved by many and will be missed by all.

The Celebration of Life service was held from Word of Life Tabernacle, Robert's Arm, on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 2:00 pm with Pastors Laun Brushett and Matthew Meade officiating. The interment followed at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Roberts Arm, NL.

Pallbearers were: brother, Rex Short; grandsons, Daniel Rideout, & Corey Rideout; son-in-law, Gary Rideout; nephews Claude Roberts, Corey Greenham, Corwin Greenham.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Harry Oxford and Julia Budgell of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale, NL.
