Earl Penney
1919-2012
It was with sadness that the family of the late Earl Penney, age 93,announces his passing on November 6, 2012 from Valley Vista Seniors Citizens Home.
Earl was born to Edgar and Maude Penney of Badger Sept 19, 1919.
He met and married Gertrude Stacey of Sunnyside in 1939. Together they raised six children. They lived in Badger until they moved to Springdale in 1973, the same year he committed his life to the Lord. For most of his working life Earl was self- employed and was known for his strong work ethic which he instilled in all of his children. Phrases such as "your word is your bond", "if you are going to do it, do it right", "always lend a helping hand", still ring in our ears.
We all remember those rare days off when he, along with Gertrude, would pack not only the wicker laundry basket full of salads, chicken and homemade bread, but also the Coleman stove and Grand Falls canvas, for an outing to Springdale or Sunnyside. He spent many hours volunteering with the Canadian Red Cross, The Gideon''s International, the Springdale Co-op Board, the local food bank as well as being a Sunday School teacher.
Earl lived a very disciplined life with a strong sense of justice. He will be missed.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude (1993); brothers Howard, Sidney, Eric, George, and Edward; sisters Marion, Pearl, Hazel, Ivy and Ida; sons-in-law Truman and John; grandchild Sharon and great-grandchild baby Matthew.
Left to mourn his passing are his children Florence (Ernie), Melvin (Myrna), Velda (Lloyd), Joan, Gail (Bernard) and Perry (Cheryl); 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held fromSpringdale Pentecostal Church on November 10, 2012, officiated by Pastor L. Foster and Pastor R. Rowsell with interment at Living Waters Cemetery, Cherry Crescent, Springdale. The pallbearers were Jonathan and David Noel, Ernie, Darren and Keith Peyton, and Lloyd Hewlett.
Donations can be made to Gideons International Canada.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Gail (Noel) Hancock and Harry Oxford of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
