Obituary

It is with sadness that the family of the late Dennis Matthew Gerard Smeaton of Triton, NL, age 56, announces his passing, on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from the Central NL Regional Hospital, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.

Dennis was the 14th of 17 siblings.  Dennis attended St.  Paul's High School, Gander, NL. In those high school years he met his sweetheart, Brenda Burton, whom he dated while enlisting in the Military and attended basic training at CFRC Cornwallis, ON followed by communications studies at CFSCE Kingston, ON. Dennis and Brenda were married on June 13, 1981 at the Salvation Army Church in Triton.  After serving a posting through the military in Nova Scotia and after the birth of his first born Jeremy in 1982, Dennis and Brenda were posted to his hometown Gander, soon after welcoming his next son Pernell into their lives in 1984.

With a desire to bring a greater focus to his new family, Dennis decided to leave his career in the Military to move to Triton, NL, where he worked at the local fish plant FPI, later becoming a shift supervisor. During his life in Triton, he fell in love with videography and the beautiful nature and people around Triton.  It became his life's passion to capture God's creation all around him and to document the lives of his family from their birth onwards.

Dennis also had a great passion for fishing. He loved to spend hours just standing over a lake casting for the next catch of trout or feeling the flow of a river as he casted his fly rod to catch a mighty salmon, or just with his boys down by Squids Cove catching "connors".  It filled him with so much joy and contentment to be amongst nature.

In 1999 Dennis and Brenda welcomed Braden, their next child into their lives with so much joy and hope...his lil "Bookie".  Braden came 18 years later then his last son which rejuvenated the immense love he felt through all the years of his first two sons. His love just continued to pour out to his family. Making any sacrifices to keep them protected and happy.

Dennis is predeceased by his parents Frederick and Nina Smeaton; brothers David Smeaton, Freddy Smeaton.

He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Leaving to remember the wonderful life that he lived are his wife Brenda Smeaton; sons Jeremy (Amanda) Smeaton, Pernell Smeaton, Braden Smeaton; grandchildren Savannah Smeaton, Abigail Smeaton; brothers Bill (Rhonda) Smeaton, Stan (Rennie) Smeaton, John Smeaton, Harry Smeaton, George Smeaton, Robert (Kelly) Smeaton, Rick (Rhonda) Smeaton, Randy (Yvonne) Smeaton, Don (Sharon) Smeaton, Philip Smeaton; sisters Tammy (Leigh) Puddister, Catherine (Ed) Slade, Elizabeth (Serge) Dussault, April (Mike) Samson; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Dennis is gone home to Heaven to be reunited with his brothers, mother, father, and a score of beautiful family and friends.

He will never be forgotten and we will meet him again through the Golden Gates where he will be waiting for us to hold in his arms, filling us with the same love he left us with. In our hearts forever!
